Yes, unfortunately one can go with Fairy Wrasses OR carpet anemones (which I love) but not both. YoungLe84, how are your Laboutei doing?

snorvich, they're doin great i lost the littlest one but i still have three. thanks for askin and i still have you in mind for the pyleis were gettin vauatu tommorow maybe some will come in and ill let you know. its never certain because we cant really pick them they come in as rubymarginalis fairies.

snorvich,

Where exactly is Barrington, Illinois? I'm flying to Chicago today for business and I will also be there in December. I'll be staying in the Skokie and Lake Forest area. Is Deep Reef Aquatics near these areas?

Deep Reef Aquatics is in Downers Grove. Barrington is about 35 minutes due west of Lake Forest and because of the traffic, 55 minutes northwest of Skokie. Deep Reef Aquatics from me is 40 minutes due south almost totally by expressway (53/355). On a map, look for Rt. 355 and 63rd. It is less than five minutes from that exit. Jeff, the proprietor is able to get incredible stuff on occasion. Most of my very rare ones, however, came from Brian (Earle's, Johnson) and from LiveAquaria (Rosefaciata, Pintail, debelius).

I was wondering if anyone had taken the trouble to gather all the pics in these (now 3!!) threads and organize them by fish and sex so there was easy reference...

If not I would be willing to do it, but would probably call on some of you experts for some of the ids and validations...

Thoughts?

Dave

Dave, That would be a great idea. Its impossible to search for any info/pics on a particular wrasse because all the info is burried in these huge threads.

dhoch,

Actually that was what I was striving to do when I first started this thread back in November of 2004. If you go back to that first thread you'll see that I tried listing just pictures and general fish information. I wasn't in alphabetical order but it had a directory feel to it. The problem is that if you do this in a thread form inevitably someone will interrupt the thread with a question and then it spirals out of control from there. Believe me not complaining here because part of the purpose back then for me was to bring more attention to the fairy wrasse family.

Is there a way to do a special thread where only a few source can input info & pics?

If so, than this may be the way to go. I have hundreds of fairy wrasse pictures that I can use. Also working closely with Hiroyuki Tanaka on a book he is preparing.

You nailed it with the problem of the thread... I mean this thing is over 2000 pages of discussion now!!!

I was just thinking about creating a webpage, using the resources here to list basically the information you did in those first posts...

I do a bunch of web stuff (see my site: http://www.danj.com/reef ) and it would be easy to do...

But I would probably need someones help to check and validate, but it's not a big deal (just takes time)....

Dave

Dave.. I think that's an awesome idea... I'm sure most of the experts here are willing to lend a helping hand and provide good quality pics for you to use..

Marvin

i also think that is a really good idea...i no when i first started to keep flasher and fairy wrasse i would have loved something like that.

Well starting today I'm off for the next week, so expect some posts here about this say early next week sometime...

Dave

just got a new fairy he looks just like the c. spp. in the divers den of LA...might be a red finned though ...but real cool he is small i will post a pic later today

i also got him in a specimen cup..i wanted to know how long do you keep him in there 1 week or so....the other guys have came up to it but don't seem to care he is even there

Depends on his/her body posture. If the fish is raring to go and wants to feed when you feed the tank AND there is no interest, you can release after as little as a few hours. Ideally release during a tank feeding so there is interest in other issues. IF there is a single fish that is displaying towards the new fish, best to release at lights off. My most recent introduct stayed in the isolation chamber for 12 hours but it was eating 2 hours out of acclimation.

well i just released the new guy with no probs at all in fact hey tried to show the other guys waht he is made of...flashed some and they all went on there way..did it at feeding and all is good...i snaped some really good pics...i will post later tonite...but it is a really cool fish...have no clue what it is...looks just like the c. spp. in the divers din but it has some blue lines going down its body...but you will have to see the pic to understand...thx for the info steve

It seems to me C. rubripinnis, female but might be a new one from southern Sulawesi and Malaysia. If it has a red marking posteriorly on D-fin it would unmistakably be the latter. They are almost unidentifiable by color pattern. See my gallery and there are several photos of the species and C. rubripinnis.
