danieljames - your female is most definitely a male now. No flame female will have yellow. She is beautiful now! How did the male die?

Thanks bro. I wish i knew. I feed piscene mysis regularly, but my lfs ran out for several weeks. The only thing i had around was some really small ones, and he didn't take to them very well. He was still very fat when i found him dead, but that's the only thing i can think of that was different. I'll miss that fish. He was very cool. The only one i've ever seen with the blue border around his fins (which he lost in captivity by the way).

By the way....can someone tell me how to sex my rubriventralis?

It was sold to me as a blue flasher.

i've seen many with the blue outline. they have to be larger though (im guessing yours was roughly 3.5" or so since it has the blue?)

Mine at home also has the blue and has kept it for the whole time ive had him (a little over a year!!) Jordani's are my favorite fish in the hobby :) The color and temperment just can't be beat by any fish IMO.

The pink margins I have seen are usually not anywhere close to that coloration but I haven't seen a male flashing, their usually more drab in coloration. I had 2 before I got rid of them since they were bullying my Lineatus.

Here's what a male Pink Margin should look like in full coloration:

They can fade a bit if a good diet or lack of females is not present.

They can have some conflict with Lineatus' because they are similarly colored and their body ship is almost the same

liveaquaria tends to touch up their pictures. Bronco's pink margin is probably the nicest i have seen. Most are not very colorful or dont have all the color that they do in that pic!

Wow..awsome fish guys. Love the Jordani's. Those are must get!
The LFS says they are getting a pair of scotts of vanatau area(dont know how to spell that). He has them priced at about 100 bucks each. Then he said they are getting a pair of C. Melanomaginatus for about 150 each. I have read the melano are very rare and very expensive...is this a good deal for these guys? Which would you pick if both specimens look good?? Anyone else have a melanomarginatus?? Pics?

lynn53,

Where did the C. melanomarginatus come from ?

It is restricted to southern Japan (from the Izu Islands to Okinawa), Taiwan, the Philippines and Vietnam. So if they came from southern seas it should be C. scottorum. Any photo ?

H. Tanaka, Well my daughter and I share this board and I think she's (whom is also a wrasse lover) hoping that a black edged or black finned (which was what he called them) is a melanomarginatus. He said they were coming in next Tuesday and they were coming from a area called vanuatu by Australia. He supposedly is getting Scott's in with them. Sounds like it can't be possible to be melanomarginatus...coming from this area?
Keep you posted.

If it is called Black-finned it woulod be C. condei as ninersrule1 states, and also scottorum has such fins on occeasion, but melanomarginatus does not occur in southern hemisphere.

Great fish Marvin, I just bought one myself. I have it in QT right now. I also have a female coming this week so I'll pair them up. Been waiting a long time for the lineatus! =)
