Fairy wrasse Photo Library

nikiwit,

In this article, Dr. Tanaka describes three distinct color morphs of Cirrhilabrus pylei.

Is it possible that you now have two males??? Your profile says your tank is 400 gallons. I wonder if your female managed to change to male???

Here is a picture of my Clown Fairy Wrasse.

That is what I am beginning to wonder. I know they were both shipped from Vanuatu.

Here is a picture of them in QT a year ago when I got them.

I recently added some fairy wrasses to my tank..they are surely my favorite fish! Here are a couple of pics:

Filamented Fairy Wrasse and Cirrhilabrus roseafascia (It's the one from Cebu with the dark fin on the bottom)

And my favorite fish: Yellow flanked fairy wrasse. If someone could give me a stronger ID it would be appreciated.

Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura, also known as Blue Sided Fairy Wrasse, Blue Headed Fairy Wrasse, Yellow Flanked Fairy Wrasse, Purple Fairy Wrasse and Red Fairy Wrasse. I'm sure there are other names used in the trade but those are just the ones that I'm aware of. :D

Careful, that Cirrhilabrus roseafascia will be very aggressive towards new arrivals.

I'll keep an eye on him, although he's doing very well with the other wrasses so far.

How many do you have in your tank?

might be an odd question but how high can wrasses jump? im putting a canopy on but was thinking about doing an open top canopy and needed no know if they would be able to clear the whole thing? 12" or so

Wow Pancho that's good looking. And for any of you Mystery owners, what would you consider a reasonable price?

Pancho,

Gorgeous exquisitus. We just got this one in from Vanuatu:

Now I need to try to avoid selling it.

On jumping:

  • Fairy wrasses can jump 1.8 times the height of a canopy
Eggcrate is excellent for dessicating and slicing jumping wrasses, while doing little to stop them leaving the tank.

My 120-gal tank was an open-top and my fairy wrasses managed to hit the eggcrate that was 11" above the water.

so if eggcrate doesnt really work what do you guys use to keep them from carpet surfing? or do you just hope that they dont jump
