I have a blue sided that is perfectly happy and I like to add more fairies but the last time i added 1 , a beautiful scotts, the blue sided harasses it until it finally found a way to jump thru the eggcrate. what do I do? flick it in the head? seriously... any ideas??. I have halides and dont want to put glass over the tank

those two are extremely close in body shape and size. if the time between adding the two is too long that will happen.

I have a Blue velvet, Scott's and had a Solar Fairy and their was some serious aggression damaged fins and all, it did subside eventually but I ended up removing the Solar.

MY Solar TORE into my new Fine-spot. Harassed him in his hidey hold, until the FS had enough then came out for the show down. By the end of the day they had it all figured out.

Quite the battle for such normally passive fish. I don't think I will ever forget the site of my Solarinsis swimming around with one of the FS's scales in his mouth.

Here are pics of my fairy wrasse, and I was wondering how hard is it to find a female Scotts?

bronco7777 - What is your opinion on the Mystery Wrasse? Do you feel this is one of the better wrasses to keep? I love the color.

Thanks,
Jason

I love the Mystery wrasse. I've made sure I've always had one since I discovered them.

They are just a bit noody so keep them with larger wrasses. They tend to beat up on small fairy wrasses.

Otherwise they are a great fish.

IMO it's like owning a mini-barracuda with ever color under the sun.

Here is a pic of my fairy wrasse it was sold to me as a Dwarf purple headed parrot fairy wrasse (what a mouth full) can you please advise if different Scientific Name would be great all i know it is Cirrhilabrus Sp.

Wrasses

bronco7777 - I am having no luck with wrasses. I have a 75g tank that has been established since May. I purchased a beautiful coris wrasse that lasted for about 3 weeks. It ate well but then started hiding alot the last week of life. I had yellow-tailed damsels in the tank that started picking on it when it weakened. I also had a pair of fairy wrasses that I purchased after I got rid of the damsels. The male did excellent but the female never ate from the time I brought her home. She lasted about a week then died. The male was still doing well after she died but started hiding more and more until he died a week after the female.

Should a tank be established for a set period of time before adding any of the wrasse family?

My readings are as follows:

0 nitrite
0 nitrate
8.0 ph
1.021 salinity
0 ammonia

Acclimation time for new additions to the tank range from 1- 1 1/2 hrs by adding a cup of my water to the LFS water every 15 minutes.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? I really love the wrasse family but am very leery of purchasing anymore.

It took me 7 Scotts to finally get a healthy pair that thrived. One pair never ate.Another pair were covered in parasites. They survived the treatment and ate up until they died.I don't remember what the other one died from.I now have one healthy pair. One is an Austrailian scotts and I'm not sure where the other one was collected.Allthe ones that died acted the same way before dying. They were swimming vertically.
I have ordered several other fairies and flashers and never had a sick one in the bunch.
Since your tank is only 3 months old,you may want to wait a while longer, but it should be able to support a pair of wrasses by now.Maybe your just getting some bad fish.

It's important to note that wrasses are not good shippers. Stress really affects them in the shipping process which eventually leads to illnesses.
Also, your source may be a problem (LFS or supplier).

I'm curious kizkid, did you QT any of these fish?

Typo - I have a blue spotted watchman goby, a royal gramma and a maroon clown that I just purchased in place of the female wrasse. I also have blue-legged hermit crabs, turbo snails, pin fish and a pink tip anemone (just purchased). I also have a star polyp coral and mushrooms.

Denver - No, I did not QT any of my fish. The wrasses were the only ones I lost.

When going to a LFS, is it important to wait 5-7 days before you purchase any newly arrived stock? I am of course still learning as a new reef hobbyist, so any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Most any of the Paracheilinus "Flasher" Fairies should be fine, as should some of the smaller Cirrhilabrus Fairies, such as
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki
Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis
Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis
Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis
Cirrhilabrus exquisitus

Heres a question. How come the scott fairy wrasse gets only .3 inches larger then the Exquisite wrasse yet the scott fairy wrasse requires a 55 gallon tank and the exquisite requires a 30 mimimum? Does the scott fairy wrasse need more swimming room?

May depend on who's information you are looking at. While I have Kuiter's Fairy wrasse book at home, I used Liveaquaria as my reference in that list. They list the Scotts as 2" larger than the Exquisit....
In short the Scotts is one of the biggest Fairy wrasses while the Exquisit is one of the larger, small Fairy wrasse.
