Dave, is that lubbocki a common pattern with those horizontal black lines. Will he change his pattern in time?

That pattern is associated to the ones found around the Sangihe region.

I just got in some nice Fairy Wrasses. Of particular not a nice male Cirrhilabrus bathyphilis (Coral Sea Fairy)and a nice male C. balteatus (Girdled Fairy.) I'm going to try and get some decent pictures of them.

Some pics of C. balteatus the Girdled Fairy. Best I could get for the moment.

Hey Just Dave, you seem to know a lot about fairy wrasses, so do you think an exquisitis or a solar wrasse would be okay for a 40 gallon reef tank?

Awesome, thank god haha. I just put an awesome solar wrasse on hold at my LFS, it looked awesome but they just got it in, about 3 inches and very perceptive of where we were and not too skiddish. I'll probably go back in about 3 days or so to pick him up.

after reading this thread I went out and purchased a male lubbocks. Can I put another male fairy wrasse in the same tank (55gal.) Fairy wrasse seem to be addictive.

I think a 55 gallon may be too small, but if you had to, I'd say you'd have to add a female lubbocks. Most species of fairy wrasses don't get along with all others. But some peoples do, its confusing.

I have a 93 gal and had a Scott's, Solar and a Blue velvet and there was constant harassment and fin damage, maybe if you add them all at once they may get along but based on my experience I would say no unless you have a large tank.

The key to successful housing of fairy wrasses is to stagger the ages and the colors. You don't need to necessarily introduce them all at one time in a tank.

Cheeks69 one reason for the constant harrassment in your tank might be the similarity in colors between the fish you have. All three of your wrasses have blue hues in them. If there are no females present, the blues in the solar and the scotts will eventually darken to a midnight blue. With such similarity in color small disagreements will break out from time to time. That is not uncommon in captivity.
With time they will learn to live with each other. Will there still be arguments? Yeah, but it shouldn't be an issue that is life threating to the fish.

The one thing you'd always want to avoid is placing a male of the same exact size and breed as another in one tank.

I keep various fairy wrasses in a 135 reef. They have their brief arguments once in a while, but they get along almost 90% of the time.
This will give you an idea of color staggering and size. This is feeding time in my tank.

Just dave,

I take it from your comments and pictures that you work in a reef store?

Are you selling those girdled fairy wrasses?

If so can you PM with a price?

I'm in Georgia so I'm not that far from you.

Also, any other fairies in stock?

Very awesome. And since your the pro, you think a solar wrasse will be fine in my 40 gallon reef? Most people said yes, just wanted your opinion as well. I put him on hold about 3 days ago and will hopefully be picking him up today. He was about 3 inches when I saw him.

Crazylionfish,

The Solar is a perfect candidate. He's not a very large fairy wrasse. Really only medium sized even when full grown. Very Hardy. Feed lots of Mysis shrimp and cyclopeeze and he'll flourish in your tank.

Gunmoto,

My current roster of wrasses is the following. This is scattered over 3 tanks:

Orangeback Fairy
Labout's Fairy
Finespotted Fairy
Exquisite Fairy (2 Male & Female)
