They do like to swim around. Mine spends most of the time on the upper part of the tank I guess cruising for food to drop in. The fish is actually quite friendly and does not get spooked at all. It seems to have plenty of room on my 180G but I think is going to love it even more in the new 280G when I finish it in a couple of week.

The trade name for that fish is a black hat pencil wrasse. It is a servensi. I've not had any problems keeping him. Just like with most wrasses, slow pacient acclimation is key to their survival rate. Wrasses are very nervous and bad shippers. If you have a slow acclimation process they will ease into captivity nicely and eat anything your fairy wrasses eat.
The only thing to remember is that pencil wrasses do need to burrow themselves in the sand to sleep. fairies don't do this but they do.

Also, if you thought fairy wrasses were good jumpers, these guys are the gold medal champions of wrasses. Keep you tank top sealed.

How big is your tank again? Oh yeah, a 240g.

The rhomboid, lineatus, and ornate wouldn't have any problems with the flame.

The rosy's are very similar in color to the flame in many ways and I've noticed that flames tend to be a little edgy. I'd make sure the sizes are different. What helps is that the flame would be the last one in and he would have to adapt to the fish that are already there.

I think you could make it work.

when you say 'last one in', are you referencing the rosy fins only? or, for example, would you be concerned adding a Laboutei after the flame?

Bronco, I have a Both male flame and rosy fin, the flame doesn't seem to care for the rosy fin, he swims around the rosy fin all flared up. But most of the time they do get along.

Bronco how big was your pink margin supermale you had a while back? My supermale is about 5 1/2 inches. Would he hold his coloration for a while until I get him a little girl?

My Pink margin is also large. About the same size as yours. This fish doesn't fade too much like other fairies. He should hold his color fairly well. It may not be as brilliant as the day you bought him but it won't be a total wash either.....like say, a Scott's going from a turqouise to a dark midnight blue.

You should be okay. Get him a girl as soon as possible.
 
First of all thank you to Bronco7777 for all of your help in this thread and all of the others that have helped.

A MUST have for all of you who wish to keep/care/learn abou these fish "Fairy and Rainbow Wrasses and their relatives" by Rudie H Kuiter is very helpful with behavior, size, and locations.

A little update on my tank the Cirrhilabrus filamentosus male is doing great, and I got a female for him, but she did not make it :( I might try again later. I have removed two of the Halichoeres chrysus in order to free up some room and have added a juv. Chirrhilabrus lineatus and a Paracheilinus bellae in a QT. Anyone know if I can place two juv. Chirrhilabrus lineatus together in a tank will they fight I cant tell the sex because they are only 2'' and dont have any color differences. Any help with this.
 
Are there any fairy wrasses that stay really small (2-3 inches) and don't fade over time?

I currently have a flame wrasse and would like to get another smaller fairy wrasse providing that my flame wrasse makes it through the copper treatment that I am about to administer. The fish has some sort of parasite after being in my quarantine for over 4 weeks. A bummer as he was getting ready to go into his new home. I will be treating with copper power which as I understand works really well and is the least toxic form available.

What is the difference between a fairies and a flasher (please keep this on the subject of fish ;) )

The best fairy wrasses to get that stay small and don't fade are the following:

Lubbock's fairy (Multiple marbled colors of purple yellow & orange)
Debelius fairy (hard to find)
Yellowfin fairy (stays a bright pink and white with a yellow fin)
Social fairy (Very easy to find and not expensive)
 
that is what I was wondering if there was any different care requirements and whatnot.

Everyone please wish me luck as my flame wrasse is getting ready to go through 30 days of copper power as it has come down with some type of parasites while in quarantine.

Last time I did this all my fish died and I left the hobby for over 5 years.

supposedly copper power works well and is really safe compared to the type of copper I used last time.
 
I have a young male Lineatus, who is quite pale compared to some some that I have seen. Will all males get to the "Supermale" coloration with time? Would having a female help his color as he matures?
 
Does anybody know if this is a male or female?
