FarmerTy 215-gal No Water Change SPS Tank

Moving is exciting. The distance this tank has come since you set it up is unbelievable even in spite of multiple do-overs with your fallow period treatments. I really hope you go even bigger and better. Are you moving to a forever home? Perhaps with a forever tank? Maybe in the 400-500 gallon range?

My bad bud, thought I responded to this when you first posted. Not our forever home, just another transitional home that we will outgrow in about 5-7 years and then I'll hopefully be able to keep it as a rental property.

That being said, I will technically get a new tank but its the exact same dimensions as my current tank. I actually got it free for helping someone downsize their tank and getting them SPS ready. It came with two overflows positioned in the 1/3 and 2/3 positions on the back wall of the tank and my current one had corner overflows which worked better with my scaping style. My plan is to rip out both overflows, cap bottom glass holes with a sheet of thick glass and an ample amount of silicone, and then install a Reef Synergy Phantom overflow.

I'll also get a new stand built so that it will allow me to start cycling the sand at the new place in the new tank and have it all in place for the big day we move everything across to the new house.

There is a good chance I'll be able to retain part of the garage conversion to use as a fish room, pending wife approval. If so, the tank will be in-wall and facing out to the dining/living room area. Let's all keep our fingers crossed!

Thank you Cbutkos! I drone on a lot in my posts so you could always just take the video and picture tour of my build thread. [emoji12]

checking in.

do you still keep your nitrates around 5-10?

Mine have always been 0 and I am going to start slowly adding potassium nitrate to target 2-5 nitrates. May have to up that as I had to take out both my regal and emporer angelfish due to taking the tips off my SPS :(

Hey Cody,

Yes sir... Still at 5-10 ppm range for nitrates.

That's a shame about the angels. Maybe try them again down the road when you have an acro forest growing in there. My emperor eats tips off the echinata but that's about it. All the other 5 angels will occasionally nip polyps but doesnt hurt the acro at all. The polyp will reappear usually a couple hours later.

Thank you, I think I am going to start aiming for a little nitrates in my system. starting to see a lot of nice tanks with nitrates in them.

Thanks for that advice, that is what I am going to do which may be a year or two at this pace haha. The regal angelfish I already sold but I am setting up a 8 foot FLOWR that I will rehouse the emporer to in a week or two but still stinks to not have them in the SPS tank.

Thats good news to hear yours just take a nip and not destroy the whole tip like mine is doing currently, going to try to catch the emporer tonight.

Also good luck with the move!! I did one a couple weeks ago.

Congrats on new house and your first child wish you the best.
Tank looks stunning as always[emoji106]
Thank you! Its a big month for this family!

I appreciate the kind words on the tank. Hopefully it stays nice when I move it... Heck, I'll be happy if it just stays alive!

Good luck, reefer buddy! New life in a new home. This is what life is all about. Pura Vida!!

Now reef keeping gets a little more complicated but manageable all the same. Congrats in the highest to you and yours

Great tank. Its nice to hear your success and see the results. I would say you've nailed it! Keep up the great tank. Did I read your having a baby? The kid will love it, mine do.

Welcome to the late edition... my new posting habits these days. For those wondering where I've been, say hello to my newest frag, Parker Niels Acropora Ta... Okay, one of those isn't really part of his real name but might as well be. [emoji5] He joined us this past Monday and my wife and I are already in love!
