fattening up Anthias?

I've got a male lyretail anthia. He eats frozen mysis shrimp, but it doesn't seem like he's gaining any weight. I think he's a bit too skinny. Are there any other foods that I should be trying to give him?

Thanks
Jim

I feed them 3-4 times a day. He eats, but he doesn't seem to be gaining weight? Any other advice on additional types of food besides mysis?

How long have you had the fish? I just got an Anthias Pictilis and it was a bear to get him to eat for about 5 days. He stayed hidden in the rocks and refused to come out to eat. I thought it was just a matter of time before he's waste away to nothing due to his hunger strike.

He eventually (I presume) was comfortable enough to swim around with me in front of the tank and started eating. I dip all my food in garlic guard from seachem and keep his food diverse. My LFS suggests to feed him "reef plankton" (forgot who makes it, but it's slightly meatier than cyclopeeze) frozen cubes, and I do - but it's only in the rotation of foods to feed him. I think keeping a diverse set of meals probably is best for the health of the fish. I don't feed any flake or pellets, just a variety of frozen foods.

Now is the fish plump? I don't think so, but he doesn't look skinny. He looks pretty healthy, and for the most part he readily comes out to feed when it's breakfast or supper time.

Feed something small like frozen Cyclopeeze - they love the tiny bites

My hutchii anthias always go NUTZ when cyclopeeze is in the tank. He won't stop eating it til nothing is left

i mix up my anthias' diet daily depending on what i feel like making for them. frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis, freeze dreid plankton, formula 1, cyclopeeze, and chopped fresh seafood is all part of their staple diet..

i feed small portions (what they can eat in 30 seconds), 3 times a day.

I soak my freezed dried ocean plankton in Zoecon. I also thaw out my frozen mysis by dropping about 5-7mgs of Selcon on it. It works great. My tang has really fattened up...along with the rest of the bunch. Works great...

Are you using HUFA enriched mysis? Perhaps you need to increase portions at each feeding.
IME the larger Anthias species will eat small FW feeder fishes (such as Rosy Reds) as well as almost anything else that's moving in the water column.
A refugium full of pods will create an endless supply of treats to eat throughout the day.

...including the occasional passing yellow clown goby :worried:
