i've got a feather duster that's growing on this oyster shell...it is still small, maybe a little more than an inch in length...i want to remove it from the oyster shell it came on but don't know how to do that without hurting or kiling the worm...is there a way to do it safely? i want to remove the shell from my tank

How big is the feather duster? Is the tube the calcerous type (hard white tube) or the leathery (soft brown tube)?

If it's one of the small, show up anywhere type of feathers you can (or at least I have). I moved a number of feathers onto one rock (kind of a feather garden). I pulled the rock the smaller ones were growing on, using an xacto knife I very carefully cut the tube away from the rock it was on and then placed the feather back into the tank where I wanted it. I placed a small pc of rubble on top of the tube to hold him in place until he attached on his own.

thanks guys
it is the calcerous type...white tube, feels hard like rock...and they're still small, but growing

felix, how large did your feather dusters get?
