February 18th at 7:30PM at UCO. The meeting will be a presentation regarding diaster preparedness. It's still Winter even though we have had an unseasonable warm one. Last February is when we had our record snowfalls. April has lined up an electrician to come speak with the group and we are trying to get someone from Home Depot or Lowes to talk about generators, as well as possibly someone from Joplin. This will be an informative meeting.

Hope to see you all there!!

Tonya

Looking forward to it. Please don't be offended if you see me snickering when people are discussing record snowfalls. I'm originally from Northern Wisconsin.

Are you talking about simple add gas and start generators or are you talking about generators that hook up to the natural gas part of your house and then kick on in a power outage? If the later, I have the plumbing side knowledge of that if there are questions.

MarlinDreams, we would love for you to give a presentation regarding those generators, if you would. Please PM either myself of Tonya if you would be willing to do so.

Anyone I could get from Lowe's or Home Depot would simply be for the add gas and start kind of generator.

As you all know, disasters in this hobby don't have to be entirely of the natural kind. I figure with all of the high powered lights, fans, filters, etc, wiring and electricity could certainly cause a tank (or home) disaster.

I have received confirmation that a certified union electrician will be willing to give a speech at the meeting, and answer any questions that you may have. Please feel free to write them down and come prepared.

Also, if anyone can think of anything else that might be beneficial in a meeting such as this, please add to this thread.
Obviously, no one can prepare for the devastation of a tornado or home fire, but there are many things that can cause a tank disaster. Have an idea, or something you would like more information on? Please add to this thread. :)

Contact Power Ready & see if they'd be interested in pitching. They did my home generator & I love it - such peace of mind.

They can at least give handouts that rec a generator size for levels of power consumption.

One aspect of disaster management that is often overlooked is knowing when one is happening.

Figuring a way to get notified of a power failure, or other problem would be a good aspect of this topic.

For example... My house alarm has a temperature sensor and a power sensor built into it that monitor my tank. If the temp falls, or rises or power goes out- they call me. Or someone else since i always seem to be on vacation at the time.

Anyways-- just a suggestion on something that can be added.

regards,
P.

That really would help when you have clear to partially cloudy skies at work and go home to find a hail storm blew thru and you have no power.

I am trying to gather as much info as I can about home use generators for this meeting. In case I can't be there I am trying to get some brochures that will aid in the information process on them.

Tonya,

Could I get you to do a write-up on COMAS. I would like to put up a greeting/ welcome notes on the front page of the Mycomas. I am working on a new setup for the new year and new focus!!!!

~Ken

My example post was removed, because i copied it from a church website. if you want an example of what I am referring to, PM me and I will give you the link.

So, for speakers so far for this meeting....I have confirmation of a certified electrician for wiring possibilities and other......I also have confirmation from Marlin Dreams about home generator systems.....I also have confirmation from Home Depot that they will have someone there speak about the portable generators...

I am also in contact with someone from OG&E regarding possibilities about notifications. I have also spoken with a couple of alarm companies, and I am working on getting some thoughts from someone who may have survived the Joplin tornado, however, no direct contact there.

I am also working on getting donations of tubs to hold water for the club garage, and possibly some powerheads, since all of our supplies seem to have disappeared over the years. Both of these items are very useful in case of a tank breakage disaster.

If you feel that you have survived a disaster, natural or otherwise, and have some insight on some things that you did, that you wish you had done, or that helped you prepare, please contact me thru PM. We would love to hear what you have to say. Even if you don't want to speak, you could write something up and I could deliver it for you.

If you have any tubs, jugs, or powerheads that you would like to donate to the club, please bring them to the meeting. We are going to be doing things a little differently as far as allowing people to take and use these items this year. More will be discussed about that at a later time.

While maybe not as "fun" as the frag demo meetings, I think this one will be very informative and useful. Hope to see you all there!

Hopfully it was a good meeting.i have friends in from out of state, or i w7ould have made it.hopefully I'll make the next one.

Extremely informative. I learned quite a lot of information I hadn't even thought of. In fact I think we bored our friends at the midtown Louise with all the new information. My wife wrote several pages of ideas that should help us on our set ups and home set ups. Thanks to all.
