feeding ananome how much?

I feed my sebae every 3 or 4 days. I use frozen food. You could use krill, frozen formula 1, clams, silversides, squid just to name a few. The more variety of food the better. I give mine a different food at each feeding. I just break off a small chunk chop it up really fine, pieces should be no larger than a quarter inch. Mix it with some tank water in a plastic cup, (make sure it is defrosted) and target feed the anemone with a turkey baster. I had to cut the tip off of my turkey baster to make the hole larger. Once the anemone is established in the tank and thriving you could cut down on the feedings.

Good Luck!!!

last statment best...once established and with good lighting. HID's they do fine with little to know feedings. basically feed on the less side.

What's an "HID?"

Hmm, I have to disagree somewhat. Careful frequent feeding is one of the best things you can do for your anemone. I try to feed mine every other day with silversides (or other whole fish meat).

I havent fed my anemone in, i dunno 6 months maybe? I've tried but in the 13 years ive owned him, hes only eaten a handful of times.

I am not necessarily saying that you cannot keep the anemone without feeding it, but IME, they do optimally when well lighted and fed regularly.

Feed my large long tentacle and green bubble anemone's once a month with a 1/2 large defrosted shrimp each. They would survive fine without any feeding, but I like to give them a treat once a month...

Oh I agree whole heartedly! I know my comment seemed a little one sided. I'm not convinced that the anemones we are primarily refering to need a consistent diet, I opted for proper lighting and such. Hosting clowns will also help by bringing in some food. Dont get me wrong, if your anemone will take it, feed it, I mean not everyday, but once in a while sort of thing. My particular LTA doesn't like to be fed, especially if stressed. Having owned him for 13 years Ive come quite in tune with his habits and "moods". :)

When I first started out with him, I was a dumb teenager and couldnt afford proper equiptment and such and only had NO Flours on him. He did extremeley well, taking food every now and again. He *hated* VHO's, maybe, because of stupidity again, I didnt give him the proper light acclimation, but months later I went with 400w MH and he's never been happier.

want them to split , overtake tank , feed away, i never feed mine, and if they are hosting clowns they get fed plenty.................i have 2 rbta and one seabae..................monsters with no feeding

I gave my Pink Tip Anomone last night. she took it but then this morning split it out. It look like she chewed it up but did not want to digest it. anyone have any idea?

I would feed smaller pieces. The feeding argument boils down to what each person would consider 'optimal' health. I consider that to be several things

1) hardiness

2) size (my sebae is around 24")

3) regular sexual reproductive activity separate from stress response.

The latter, in the circumstance of females, may not be good for the tank, but, IME, is a good indicator of the overall health of the animal. I am currently working on spawning behavior in a second H. crispa. IMHO, if you are not going to allow for the potential growth and natural behaviors of a large, healthy anemone, then you should set up a separate tank for it. I assume that most people that have anemones in their tanks primarily focus on that particular animal.

I have also noticed that my gold-banded maroon attempts to remove the shrimp I feed to the LT anemone. She's always busy cleaning up and removing "trash" from the anemones. To successfully feed the anemone's I use one of those Kent spot feeding pipettes with the bayonet on the end and place the shrimp right at the mouth. I have to keep the maroon away until the anemone envelops the shrimp otherwise she'll throw it out. This gives me the feeling I am doing something unnatural by feeding the anemones and is one reason I keep the feeding to once a month. I know that they would be fine by photosynthesis alone. I have had the LT for over a year and it has grown considerably. I only started the feeding a few months ago as an experiment...

my pink tip anemone is half white and half off white. does anyone know why? is it due to lighting because the half off white is under the actinic light and the other half is right under 12k bulb. is that the reason or is it something i am missing? thankx
