Feeding and placement of Clam

I just got my first maxima clam and some DT's for it. Do I feed the hole or the spout that sticks up? I'm going to wash out one of the syringes that come with the salifert test kits to feed him. What is the recomended dose for a 3 incher?

Also I've placed him in 3 different places only to find him laying on his side. Does it matter if I place him perpindicular to the water current or parralel with it? The first time I placed him I set a piece of rock under the sand and pushed him onto it but he jumped.

Tank is 25" tall and I have a 4-5" sand bed. 250W 10k MH. Legit or does he need to be up on the rock a little? I can scoop some sand and put it on the rock in some areas.

No no no....danger Will Robinson. Never inject or squirt anything near a clam. THey can literally choke to death. Either take the clam out and place in a bowl filled with tank water with a capful of DTs in it and let him slowly feed for 20-30 minutes a few times a week, or, a few times a week use a homemade "feeding bell". Search for details on these, constructed out of a 2 liter bottle, airline tubing and valve.

Basically cut the top off clean the sucker real well, poke a hole in the cap to insert 1/4" tubing attatched to a valve attatched to more tubing. Place over clam pour in some DT, open up the valve to let the DT pour into the feeding chamber? Take it off in like 30 minuts?

The search didn't pop up anything, so I'm just guessing.

That's basically what you have to do. I had to purchase a gallon jar of juice at Wal-mart to have a bottle that would fit over my 4.5" maxima.

And to deliver the phyto, I mix it in as little water as possible and then use a sryinge (without the needle) to get it into the bottle.

Thanks a lot. He's in the same spot that I left him this morning too. He looks like he was open about an inch to an inch and a quarter when I saw him. But thats near the end of the day for the tank.

Over 3 inches really shouldn't need any supplementation for intense lighting. They are photosythetic and that is how they feed mostly over 2-3 inches.
