I have a blue hippo tang and a yellow tang, I am feeding them this right now http://www.oceannutrition.com/?post=green-marine-algae

2 questions

1.the one I am feeding a green algae, do I need to buy the Brown Marine Algae or Red Marine Algae for my tangs? or just green ones are fine?
does anyone know the differences?

2.in the product desc it says "Enhanced with natural garlic extract for increased acceptance by finicky eaters and to promote health."
do I still need to soak them in Kent Garlic Extreme? if yes, for how long?

I just want my tangs to be happier.
thanks

Feed them whatever they will eat, in my experience most fish don't care for the brown or red seaweed as much as the green, but I'm sure some will eat it or they wouldn't sell it. The green Nori will provide them with all the nutrition they need from their veggies, but of course tangs will eat meaty foods as well.

sorry, one more questions, how is this one compare to the ocean nutrition ones? seems like no garlic come with it

I wouldn't worry about it, green alone is fine, I will switch it up with red Every now and then, you can soak it in garlic extreme, I don't, but you might.I put a couple drops in my Rods frozen when I feed once or twice a week, along with some Seachem focus.

Garlic isn't nessasary unless they don't want to eat it. Tell you the truth, I go down to the asian food supermarket and I buy packages of nori to make sushi with. It's the same stuff only ALOT cheaper. I pay about $1.50 a package.

I feed mine nori from the local grocery store. All my herbivores love it and it costs way less than the fancy stuff (and it's all probably the same stuff).

Stop wasting your money. Go to your local oriental market and get a package of sushi algae. I pay 3.99 for a package of approximately 25 sheets. Been doing this for four years and all my tangs have big smiles. I feed half a sheet a day for three tangs.

For those of you using nori, do you soak them in garlic, I was told garlic help preventing ick and HLLE, is that true or like CLeadfootS said garlic is just for fish that don't eat seaweed?

wow, your tang must be big and fat, my tangs cannot even finish 1/16 sheet per day

Garlic doesn't do anything to prevent ich nor HLLE.
Some people have better luck to train certain picky fish to eat by adding garlic to the foods. Some people don't have any luck with that either.

My purple tang and angels love this stuff. This morning they finished one 4x4 sheet and I added a second for the first time (they are still in quarantine)
