feeding tangs lettuce?

Anybody feed theyre tangs lettuce? What kind of lettuce? And also wash it in rodi first? Ive also read some feed zuchini and stuff like that to them, do you cut it up and freeze small portions of it?

I feed my blue tang lettuce every 1-3 days. I rinse with RO water, and put it on a TLF seaweed magnet before leaving for work. When I return home, it's all gone.

I feed spinach, i just rinse under the tap and put it on the clip. They love it and i think its a bit more nutritious then plain lettuce

Hey noob, glad to see you on here! I've read that people feed all sorts of veggies, like broccoli, lettuce, zucchini and a few other. I've never tried it personally though.

Romaine lettuce on my end. Also feed Nori seaweed from the Asian supermarket.

thats what im feeding right now, nori from the asian market, got a giant pack for like $9, it will last me for a LONG time. The tangs also feed on formula 1 and formula 2 when i feed the clowns

When I brought the wild into my living room!LOL
There are alot of things we feed that may not be totally natural, I don't recall garlic in the ocean either, and some feed macro algaes that are not indigenous to many tangs origin.
As long as they are free of pesticides, no sweat.

Classic! LMAO!!!! - There is absolutely nothing natural about our galss boxes. We try our best through supplements and finding the right balance. In the end, we're probably just scrathing the surface of recreating a true environment or providing the correct spectrum of foods to our tank inhabitants.

As I remember it lettuce is not a good source of food for tangs or for that matter any other fish as it doesn't have very much nutritional value. Think of it like brine shrimp. I would recommend broccoli, spinach, etc as they have a higher nutritional value.

I had a Naso tang that I got from a fellow reefer who had him for over 4 yrs that raised him entirely on romaine lettuce. I continued that and he developed full blown streamers and grew fast! I had him another 4 yrs after that before I took the tank down. At that time he was about 14 inches. All my tangs have eaten romaine religiously and I have had nothing but great results with it. a side note seaworld here in orlando feeds the manatees romaine.

I would think the nutritional value would be alot higher lettuce, spinach etc than the paper thin dried nori, not too mention alot cleaner for the tank as well, when the tang is ripping on the nori on the food clip pieces go everywhere, i would think the lettuce would stay intact longer. I will keep feeding nori but am going to switch it up every other day with lettuce and see how they like it, im just trying to make theyre diet larger so they arent lacking a nutrient that one thing is missing, they do eat like pigs and do feed out of my hand but i want some rolly polly tangs, now that i am running bio pellets i can afford to increase theyre feeding without riddling the tank with nitrates and phosphates.

I would say with 8 years of expierience with feeding lettuce to the tangs that it is proven that it works

WOW, i fed my tangs lettuce for the first time tonight and OMG they love it! They were almost fighting over it, if my clowns would come near it they would chase them off.

How do you guys keep your lettuce? Do you freeze it?

I don't feed my fish lettuce, but I have seen several public Aquarium do so, including Seaworld....Dried seaweed is cheaper.

iceberg lettuce has the least amount of nutritional value than all other greens... not sure the exact numbers of each but i know its the lowest... spinach has much more nutritional value... jus sayin... i myself like a mixed greens salad
