Female clown moving and spitting sand?

We recently bought a pair of clowns for our biocube. Yesterday I noticed the female kept spitting sand and with her tail is moving the sand in a specific spot. She has already made a heap of sand and looks like she made a small cave from where she took the sand from. Is this normal behavior or is she being weird? :hmm3:

It's all fun and games until she moves 90% of your sand to one corner of the tank overnight. My female GSM was relentless and her sand moving antics were what eventually led me to getting rid of the pair.

ok, I mentioned this to a fellow reefer and she thought maybe they were getting ready to lay eggs. We did notice she is much more aggresive today and especially about her "spot". Would it make sense that she may be getting ready for eggs?

She definitely could be. The fact that she is preparing/grooming her nest or the area that is hosting her is a good sign.

they are the only fish in the tank, I was hoping to add maybe 1 or 2 small fish. Do you think it would be ok to still add them?

Are they the Ocellaris you mentioned in your other post? How large is the biocube? If it is a 29g I would say go for it with a couple other small fish. if its the 14 you are about stocked with the pair of occys.

Yes they are the same fish. I have the 29 so maybe I will try 1 or 2 fish

How are they doing out? Did she really lay eggs? my maroon is doing the same..moving sand and even a big piece of stone away from her "nest" which is a ceramic cup.

A good fish to get would be a diamond watchman goby with the pair. I have a pair of clowns in my tanks swell as a watchman goby that I added after the pair was established and they all get along happily. the goby will help to keep the sand from piling up too much on one side of the tank seeing how he distributes sand swell as cleans it.
