I had been thinking about a few things for field trip ideas before our last meeting. Then Franky posted about a road trip. Now others are chiming in as well.

Let's get some discussion going on what everyone would like to do.
Let's keep the politics out of it, and we'll tweak if necessary. These ideas can be club and nonclub events.

(1) My first thought was taking a trip to Manhattan Aquariums and Maximum Reef Aquatics in Yonkers. This could be a group of 8 to a group of 20-30.The idea was to get a larger group together. Plan a date with the stores so that they could get in extra product/livestock, and potentially set up a sale just for us.There would be a charge per person for transportation. That would depend on the amount of people going and what group rate I can get. (I am looking into transportation options now.)

(2) Take a trip to Brooklyn Aquarium for the day

(3) Brooklyn Aquarium & visit one fish store listed in option 1

(4) Arrange a private tour of facility(and possibly sale) at Fishmart

(5) I've heard other ideas in the other post about visiting Jason Fox. I definitely think that could be a club event. He could give a tour of his tanks and explain how he works his magic. It would definitely be an education trip.

(6) We could schedule a CTARS show-n-tell Tank day where members have a group of people over for an hour or so to talk about their tanks and show off what they have, then they'd move on to the next tank. We could do 3-5 tanks a day (group the tanks together by location) then do dinner afterwards and discuss the day.

Depending on the event, and if it is sponsored by CTARS, we could see if transportation could be covered for the more local events.Everything is up for discussion.

I'm attempting to attach a poll, but if it doesn't work, please let me know in this thread which options you like, and feel free to give feedback or ask questions.

Thanks.

Number 6 was brought up earlier this year everyone liked the idea but nothing ever came of it.... just like moving the meetings around. It only happened once.

I agree! I feel (To Quote My Drill Instructor) Highly Motivated, Highly Dedicated, Always Ready, Never Say Quit, Never say Die OooohRahhhh!!!

Let's Git R DOne as Sass Mentioned!!!

Sass, Did you look into Reef Gen as they are located in NYC as well?? Just a thought.... I'm sure that would be a very educational trip as they are all about Reef Conservation with Aqua-cultered Corals and such...

No I did not. I will look into it tomorrow when I have a little more free time. Thanks!

I'd also like to throw in another idea. tank visit us nice for all of those with nice tanks. what about a tank help day? planned the same as a visit, but maybe you done have all your dif test kits, need a tank moved, etc. what better than to have a few members come to give you a hand.

7 people trying to help figure out an algae issue is way better than one.

I think this is a great idea, my only comment would be is that really something that the club needs to organize or is that more of a member creating a thread and asking for help. If it is a club activity it should be something that all can participate in...7 heads are better then one...however 25 members trying to work on one tank could get ugly.

As a lot of us are pretty far apart I don't think there would be thar many coming to each one of these. Obviously there are some bugs that need to be worked out. But I love all of these ideas :)

no event NEEDS to be organized by the club. but it can't hurt. I think if a day is set in Advanced, that would give everyone a chance to be free on the same day.

I think for some of these, like option 6 for instance, the group could all meet at one location, travel around, and end back at the other location. carpool so to speak (maybe a van is rented for the day, who knows). That way it isn't a caravan of cars driving around all day..

I agree but I would really like to see all the money we put into the club be used for something that the members would actually get excited about. 8 years later and still were doing the sane type of meetings at the LUTZ. Blahhhh. I get it though, we don't have to pay to use their facility, their kind enough to let us do that. But this club does have a good bit of money in its fund. I'm tired of lame excuses not to do what the members want. Please no offence to the current BOD ( their a great bunch of guys) but maybe we need new blood involved with some new ideas that are not scared to stand up and have their voices heard to give this great club a bit of a kick in the pants that it needs.

The reason why the BOD has elections every year is to great that new blood in office. So why don't we all be proactive to and make the changes that we want instead of complaining about it. Just my 2 cents. I will run for office...
