Filamented flasher wrasse... Colors.. Experience... Etc

Filamented flasher wrasses... Petco apparently has one on crack for this photo.

But seriously most are red like other flasher wrasses. Can and do they change color that drastically? What causes it?

He will be going in a tank with many other wrasses:

Mccoskers flasher, solar, Scotts (Cook Islands), exquisite (Maldives), lubbocks, fairy wrasses as well as many non fairy:

Vroliks, lime green, yellow coris, red striped "christmas", true christmas, and a leopard wrasse.

They all hang together except the Scotts and leopard wrasse they march to their own drum...A magenta dottyback even thinks he's a wrasse and hangs with them as well as a couple regular and a purple firefish. Anyway, any chance he will display or change with all that wrasse activity?

The color on the Petco pic is a little off, but close to a nuptial display. Paracheilinus wrasses not only "flash" their fins, but also coloring when really displaying to potential mates and rivals, and a brilliant blue along the dorsal is what the filamented does. This is not its normal coloring for most of the time, but can be noticed during feeding and evening hours especially toward other wrasses.

Yes, they do get beautiful when flashing. I've never seen one that blue, but my old one would highlight a lil when my carpenters would get close

But as eatbreakfast stated, when flashing the Paracheilinus can/do change color quite drastically. It's pretty much akin to appearing like someone just switched on their battery.

That's great to hear, I have a mccoskers flasher I hope they display together. Many other wrasses and fairy wrasses as well
