Film on Clownfish?

I have a clownfish that has become covered in a white film....it is still eating, but staying up near top of tank almost all the time.
Also I have noticed that it's eyes are totally red.....my other clown seems unaffected so far anyway. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Along with the film is there a strange slime like substance like.. a covering over the fish? Try looking up something called brooklynella and see if that fits the bill.

Without a picture or more detailed description its what i think of off the top of my head but maybe it'll help?

does have a film but this has been going for a month or so.. I have to hand feed it to get it to eat. the fish is not scratching at anything but it does stay at the top gasping for air. Shouldnt that disease or ich kill it pretty fast. like i said its been going on for a month. ?

I would check your parameters and then, if you have put any medication into the tank recently, or haven't done so already, do a water change.

Sounds like Brook, I would start doing some sort of medications (i.e. QT) and possibly hypo salinity. Does not sound good though.

if you have brook, i would do the hypo salinity and raise the temp of course in a q tank. when my clown fish had brook. i did 15min for 2 days. one of the fish store owner said to do 5-6 min dip for one week. but after the 2nd day my fish look way better and didn't want to stress him or me any longer. now he is doing fine and no sign at all. eatting like a pig.

the reason i did 15 min dip is because i read joyce wilkerson's book on clownfish and she said the only way for to cure brook is a full 15min dip. (that is just what the book said). but now i am glad i did. also i heard copper dosen't work on brook? not an invertebrate?

Hyposalinity is not dips, it's prolonged exposure to water with specific gravity 1.009. For hypo to be effective it NEEDS to be 1.009, and you must wait to bring the SG back up to 1.026 at least four weeks after the last sign of infection.

Personally the only thing I'd recommend is kordon Formalin III. 1mL/gallon in a bare bottom quarrantine tank with a heater and an airstone. Use Amquel to neutralize ammonia before it starts. Dips are too harsh IMO and usually just finish the fish off. Some say use a warm tank to speed up the life cycle of the disease. Unfortunately it also speeds up the metabolism of the fish. If the fish can't breathe already it will only make the fish more out of breath and more likely to perish. So, I prefer to lower the temp to somewhere around 75 degrees. Once the fish starts to recover, you can start thinking about things like speeding up the paracite's life cycle with higher temps.
Hyposalinity is also helpful when used in conjunction with Formalin. as i understand it it also allows for higher levels of oxygen in the water. Given that brook and ick are usually colonized on the gills first, I'd say this is a good thing.

Whatever you decide to do, do it with a quickness. If you're fish already has the film and is gasping for air at the surface, I would suspect you don't have much time to waste.

Your fish could also have amyloodinium. Which, I would treat the same way. the problem is that it is harder to erradicate from the main system. Either disease can infect other fish without visible symptoms. So, your clown could easily get it again once you add it back to the same old system with it's old tank mates.
