Filter bags and nutrients

I forgot to replace my filter bag last week before I left for vacation. When I got back a week later, all of the corals in my tank had a much deper and more vibrant color to them. Is this due to not having my filter bag on? If so, why bother using on at all?

Was that the only thing different when you were away? Same feeding schedule/type/amount of foods? Did you do a big water change before you left? What about dosing, carbon, GFO, etc.?

I think it's tough to say one way or the other if it was specifically the filter bag. One way to test it would be to leave it off for a while.

FWIW,I don't routinely use mechanical filtration ,ie. filter socks/bags.
