filter media information?

I just have a question about my filter system. i currently have a emperor 400 hang on filter for my 29 gallon. It has two filter as well as two gray containers in front of the filters. I was wondering if I should be putting carbon or something in theose gray media containers? if so what should i be using?

Not familiar with Emperor filter, but I'm using usually filter floss (or pad) for mechanical filtration, carbon (changed weekly), Purigen (other use Chemi-Pure) and PhosGuard (you may prefer iron-based kind, PhosBan?).
If this filter has flat cartridges or plastic frame for attaching pads - you can try to attach piece of 100 micron pad for mechanical filtration.

I like to put a little extra carbon in those grey containers. IMO those filter pads don't contain enough

You can use those comparments for extra media such as carbon if you want but you really don't need to use them for anything if you don't want to.
