Hey guys

I was just wondering how I might block the bottom vents in my first filter chamber to turn it into surface skim only. What has worked for you guys in this department?

all input appreciated.

I just set up the AP12 tonight. What I did was use a dremel tool to cut a square piece of plastice (from the clear front of a cd case) and used PVC cement to glue it in place on the inside of chamber 1.

I did this with both of the intakes, leaving only the overflow teeth open. I also upgraded the stock pump to a MJ900.

Make sure to give the cement plenty of time to cure.

I took a vinyl covered 3 ring binder and cut out rectangles to cover the 2 lower intake vents on my 12G Aquapod. Works like a charm and i get great surface skimming.

On the Aquapod 12 (I'm not sure about the 24) , there are 2 intakes below the water surface. Blocking these off force all of the water to cycle through the system via the surface overflow, which dramatically aids in removing the surface scum.

In my case, I also wanted it to do so in order to have the water pass through a layer of floss before reaching the LR rubble/refugium areas of the filter system in order to filter out the larger particles. This floss is at the top of the 1st compartment where the overflow is located.

Also, the bottom intake will allow sand to pass through if you put 15 to 20 pounds of substrate in the tank. I prefer to keep the larger particles and sand out of the filter area/pump as much as possible.
