Filter Sock & Skimmer

So I added a sand sifting goby to the DT today...not sure if it was a good idea, but no way in heck i can get him out of there now. So i figured I'd add a sock to help clear some of the cloudiness in the tank. Well once i added the sock, the skimmer went ape-crazy. It this normal? Kinda got scared bc I've never seen this happen in the past.

Any thoughts or opinions is appreciated and thank in advance...

not sure if this is right...just a deduction...back pressure? OR...filter sock removes enough preliminary gunk to make the skimmer work easier????? that's a guess.

I've noticed that too, any brand new socks or filter pads unrinsed cause skimmer to go nuts right as soon as they hit the water. they must have something on them but i have never seen it effect anything.

As the goby keeps working you should see the cloudiness clear up at some point. I've never had my skimmer go nuts from using new filter socks from CF. 'Gratz on the new fish Ricky!

did you wash or pre rinse the sock first? might have had something to do with it? either way no big deal IMO, but I'm just guessing. I've seen my skimmer go nuts because of a clogged venturi, for adding too much epoxy stick when adding a lot of frags, and a few other times. Not to worry.

Thanks everyone...I threw one of the new socks in the wash last nite got it air now. I'll give it another whirl later this morning while i do do some basement fish area clean up
