Finally an easy solution to bryopsis!

from what i hear you need to parcipitate the calcium out of the water before you can truly measure the level of mg, and salifert doesnt do this that i know of, but i do believe the seachem test kit does. but i have been using salifert and im at 1800 MG and still have bryopsis and i manulayy pull it every other day like a freak to a point igot rash on arms from something in water or rubbing on rim of tank. Im thinking about using a seachem test kit to get atrue reading, i think my 1800 is not correct hensce the bryopsis continues to laugh at me,

When I was boosting mag with Tech M, I used Salifter test kit the entire time and found it to be quite reliable. As I recall, I got near 1700ppm and the magnesium died within a week.

did you guys do anything special? like remove sand, do alot of vaccumming and water changes prior to starting to boost MG? or did you guys preform any changes during the treatment course? just seems that if something in tank is causing the growth of this stuff like nitrates than maybe a good cleaning andshiponin prior to treatment is in order? I just tested again today and thelevel is at 1410 and im outof both mg test kit and tech m oh poooop! Guess im placng an order tonight.

I'm up to 1375 and have put 2/3rds of a gal in my tank since I began, so I'm running out too. I cleaned mine out tonight and it's way worse than I thought. If I can't get ahead of this, I don't know what I'm going to do.

aquacnnect first me i thought i beat it i used abou a gallon to treat my 120 gallon tank and i think i started at like 1300 and got to like 1800 then vanished. But thre were a few stray hairs around, i will this tme keep levels high until i dont see onedarn strand left, i will say that the increase in MGhas made only my turbo snails stupid, they all laying upside but are not dead just dazed, oeverything else is ok fish corals hermits, astrea etc.

Well, I through one gallon, and only have 64oz left. Its at 1400. Hopefully I can find some gallons on line and get it ordered to try and combat it. My sailfert test kit will be here on Tuesday to compare with my Seachem test. I wish I could just go off and shout obsenitites to make myself feel better.

yeah marinedepot sells it to for like 30 for a gallon and shipping included, i jsut bought some from LFS and started ramping it back up, aquaconnect once u hit that magic number it will go away, get to 1600+ and then go slow from there, but once it starts to vanish keep level up till you dont see a single strand, i mean look, and look again and look again and again and then look some more. im at 1550 as of today, im hopeing in the next few days it starts to die, ill keep ya posted

Michael, when I had to deal with Bryopsis, I plucked off all I could each day. I used a turkey baster to blow out the core daily, so it wouldn't be able to trap detritus to create its own little DSB within its base. And I put some Lettuce Nudibranchs on those areas. Each day I would find them in the refugium, sucked against the intake of my Tunzes, on the overflows, etc. and I would put them back on the bryopsis-infested areas. It was a slow but working solution.

A foxface will mow it down quickly, but once you get rid of that fish it comes back.

Once I got rid of it my way, it never came back.

Well, mine looks like it's starting to go away. Thursday I pulled out as much as I could. Yesterday little strands started coming off. Today it's losing color and looks like my tang is picking at it, and so it's disappearing. I've found alot in my filter sponge. I tried to blow some off, but it's still holding on pretty good. I'm getting ready to test my mg right now, but it looks like things are turning around.

Alright, I just tested and have mine at 1650 according to my Seachem test kit. Should I maintain this value, or raise it some more? Any suggestions?

tak it to 1700 and hold it, thats where im at now and starting to see it fade myself, but you need to hold it till u dont see any more, i mean it, i dropeed my mg levels back down and that crap came right back so scrape pluck and anything u can do to rid that stuff. hopefully we can beat this, oh and i added some blue legged hermits, they are plucking at it goodtoo, but they are so small, so its slow going

Cool, I will be getting 150 small blue legs and 10 lettuce nudi's tomorrow from reeftopia. Mine's looking like it's going down hill. I have 3gal of more tech M ordered, but won't be here till Friday and 32oz of it left until then, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I was following a thread on vitamin c dosing for zoas that wouldn't open. The Vitamin C I used also contained magnesium stearate. My tank is all softies, including a basketball sized sebae anemone. After 2 weeks of dosing 500 mg tablet vit C (walgreens) once in the morning and once at night, all of my algae is gone. (100 gal tank) I don't kinow if it was hair algae, or bryopsis. It was every where for a very long time, even bubble algae is turning clear and fading away. All occupants in the tank seem fine, including anemone, zoas are starting to open, 3 rocks of hairy mushrooms, all different kinds, one rock is bleaching, all others are growing bigger and more colorful. Mag level is 1600,
I have no idea what it was before, my calcium has gone up to normal levels, my ph has remained the same at 8.1, alk went up slightly to 4.5, dkh 12.8 , but the algae died just as people are describing here. Chaeto looks good yet.
