That's not a salmon
Team RC
For the first time, I bought a top of the line piece of equipment, rather than letting my budget dictate...

Thanks to all of you who gave me advice on a decent protein skimmer for a heavily stocked 210 on a standard AGA stand (meaning <30" space).

I finally decided on a Bubble King 250. It was more than the comparable Octopus Extreme 250, but that footprint wouldn't fit my sump, and the raves about the BK 200 and 250 ended up swaying my decision.

Since my FOWLR is stocked so heavily, I went with the 250 instead of the 200. I'll let you all know how it works once it arrives.

Today's my birthday, and I finally decided I deserve it! :)

Thanks!

Besides buying myself a parrot about 20 years ago, this is one of my pricier self-indulgences. Though my cumulative investment in the fish (and others no longer with me) far exceeds the cost of the skimmer. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Im sure it will be well worth it. For a heavily stocked FOWLR, there is really nothing more important.

Cool! Im sure you will enjoy having a top notch skimmer - they are so so sexy.

I got a birthday tattoo for myself once... ( and I still have it! :p )

I know that, but it still seems like sooo much money! But that's exactly why I finally went for it. I'm sure I'll be very happy I got it.

No buyer's remorse on your birthday.

Happy Birthday Lisa!

money's spent, I just have to pay off the credit card, eventually. soon the pain will just be a dull memory and I'll finally have a right-sized, kick/a$$ skimmer.

Happy B-day and a good purchase. I did the same with my pc light fixture a couple years ago. It was my bd and I said, "this is what I want" and I got it. No buyers remorse here!

You'll have the skimmer for a long time and in the long run its totally worth it. I did not spend quite that much on my skimmer but it seemed like way too much at the time but now over the few years I have had it, its easily worth it. It keeps my fish happy and my job much easier.

I remember my early days of HOB skimmers and never ending water changes because the skimmer could not keep up...I bet I spent more on salt than I needed to and could have used that money for a good skimmer. They really do go a long way.

Always good to treat yourself to a gift...and a good one that will last for years, too...great deal! Happy belated b-day.

Happy Birthday! And congrats on the awesome skimmer. I would love to have one like it, but I probably wouldn't be able to enjoy it. - Since my wife would have me sleeping outside after making that purchase!

It's already here!!! Will put it in later tonight or tomorrow. :D

I am hoping my husband doesn't notice. I'm going to sell my other, lightly used skimmers, none of which are rated for 200+ gallons (Euroreef, Remoras, etc.) Anyone looking for decent skimmers rated for tanks 70-120 gallons, send me a PM.

Dumb question, for anyone that has experience with BK 200 or 250. How do you get the gate valve to open? Mine came with it shut. It is plastic, and there is a plastic knob/screw. When I turn it counterclockwise, nothing moves, but it seems to be torquing. This skimmer is really expensive (for me, anyway) and before I proceed further, I'd like some advice. I don't want to break this thing before I put it in the tank! Turning the handle the other way (clockwise) doesn't seem to do much either. Nothing appears stripped. It's probably fine, but could someone advise?

TIA,
Lisa
