Finally finally finally found my green LTA!!

Hey Alisa!! Shhh it's a secret ;-) I know better than to post this there lol. My sandbed is a little over 3" which I know is the minimum so if he still won't settle I plan on adding more sand.

Buddythelion, thank you! It took me quite a while and a good deal of patients to find one like this, I'd say few years easily.

Elaw62, thanks! Will do for sure!

I have this exact same anemone for my ocellaris clowns and they hosted right away... I've always wondered what is the exact species of this anemone does anyone know? Also I've had it for around 6 months it's always been happy... I used to feed it alot in the beginning but now I never spot feed but its still happy and always big... Is it bad to not spot feed?

Ha Jarrod! BTW, once you're ready for clowns let me know if you're interested in my mated snowflake pair. They're just hanging in my son's tank since I set up the pony tank, and they could really use a nice nem to hang in (his tank doesn't have sufficient lighting for one).

Steve, it's a Macrodactyla doreensis. No it's not bad to if you don't spot feed, as long as it gets some food when you feed everything else.

Alissa, I actually might be interested, got a pic?

Jarrod, if the 3 inches of sand you have isn't satisfying your LTA (which is very nice, btw), a small tupperware container that is 5 or 6 inches deep, filled with fine sand would be a good place to locate your LTA. Once the anemone has dug in, you can strategically place some liverock in a way that conceals the container. I had an LTA for years in a wide PVC pipe that was sealed at the bottom. Before I sealed it, the anemone would attach to the bottom of the tank and literally move the PVC pipe. Once I sealed the bottom, the anemone was satisfied and stayed put.

Good idea Gary thanks! I actually made a pile about 5" deep and put him in it last night. Today he seems to have taken to it do we'll see

Well been a month in the same spot so I guess he's happy :-)

I'll get some updated pics soon, just got a new camera

That is a beautiful M. doreensis. Once my LTA settled in, he hasn't moved more than an inch or so in 16 years. My Occ. clowns took a couple days to accept it as a host. One clown went in the second day in the tank the other followed the next day. I never feed mine anymore. It gets some food from the clowns and catches some on its own.

Do you still have those original clowns naturenerd?

Yep. The first animals added to my tank were the LTA and the clowns. Still have them 16 yrs later.

Sorry OP. The female is just over 2.25" long, but is fat. The male is also small at just under 2" but he too looks robust. The LTA is anywhere from 7" to 10" in diameter. They spawn regularly.

To try to get back to the original topic, I think LTA's have a pretty good track record with occ. clowns. It may take some time, and wild caught seem to go in quicker, but everyone I know with this combination has had good luck. Of course, it helps if there is no other possible hosts like frogspawn or a big sinularia.

Beautiful nem and clowns naturenerd!! I can't believe you've had them for 16 years!!! what an accomplishment.

Makes me feel better to hear that occ's often are hosted by the lta's

Will do!

I'm not sure if I'll be able to get clowns or not now because I'm moving in a few months and I'm consolidating everything into one larger tank, problem is my fish are all ambush predators and the kinds of clowns I want will be eaten, so it might stay clownless :-(

I might keep my 28 bowfront though just for the nem and clowns, I haven't decided yet
