Finally my 125g build thread

Well thus far I am loving this hawkfish. Fed some mysis earlier (or was it brine, either way), and he ate well. Just went in to check on him a min ago, and couldn't find him on the sand bed anywhere, or in the pvc elbows, so I started thinking crap, he must of jumped and started looking on the floor. No sign of him so I look back in the tank, and hes just chillin on the backside of a powerhead where it touches the glass, just lookin around. Reminds me of my cat, sitting on a perch jsut waiting for something to go by below to pounce on.

Looking back through these pics I posted, that dead coralline algae on the back of the tank is terribly distracting. May scrape it in the next few days. Also the pic of the wrasse a few posts up, looks like a vampire devil. LOL . My true 1:1 macro lens should be in the mail tomorrow and will start getting some new pics. Hawk fish is still doing good. Can't wait until I can put him in the display. He just looks so lonely sitting in a 40B with nothing but some pvc pipe to keep him company. Still haven't decided on doing TTM or not. Gotta decide by tomorrow as that will be the first 72hr window. I tested nitrates in the 125 tonight, and they were, um, a tad high. 40+. I had intended on letting the tank "settle" for a few weeks before I did a water change or started testing CA, po4, mg, etc, but I think I will be doing a W/C tomorrow. My hydor ATO has been a PITA. It works fine, but the pump I have running it apparently pumps the water faster than the sensors can "sense" so it always pumps it up to the top probe which is the alarm one, so it constantly beeps unless I move the probe up or turn the whole thing off. Think I'm gonna have to get an adapter to use a much smaller hose so that it doesn't fill as fast. As for the corals, everything looks great minus the clove polyps, and the blue sympodium. They looked great in the 40, but aren't happy yet in the 125. I think it's a flow issue. I've let them be for the last few days, but moved them tonight to different areas. Hopefully they will open again.

New 1:1 macro showed up today so of course had to snap a few shots.

Well needed to do a tank update. A week or so ago I got a 16" euphotica led fixture (clone of the photon 16) and hung it over the middle of the tank. Is much brighter and double the watts of each kessil so I ordered 2 more to replace the 2 kessils. Got them in today but haven't had a chance to get them running. So far everything in the tank is doing good minus the anenome (hoping the new lights will help with that). I also started a vinegar dosing regime about a week ago to get the nitrates down. They were up to about 60. In other news my blue hippo carpet surfed. Picked up a new one today the same size that is now in QT. Have also since made a screen top from the BRS kit. Will get that over the display as soon as the kessil neck mounts are out of the way. Otherwise, tank is doing great.

Neat build! I'm basically at step 1 of your build. I have a 55g tank that is 3yrs strong. Just got a craigslist find for a 135g that is sitting in its new room waiting for me to attack it. Did you build or buy your sump? Any reason you chose to go with the rigid pvc over that green flexible stuff that seems to come with all filtration? I'm currently reading a LOT about sumps and return pumps cause the guy I bought this from failed at making it a saltwater aquarium, but I think I know its because he used a 9g wet/dry for filtration of a 135g tank. Also researching heaters and it looks like 2x 300w is the way to go if I can fit them in a sump.

Got the new lights all hooked up. Much better. Sorry I forgot that screen pic again, gimme just a sec.

Here it is. Because my 125 has a glass brace I made 1 for each side. It's not the prettiest thing in the world but it works.
