Finally my 450 Tank Build!!

my friend shimmed his 380 with large washers (not under the tank) but under the main supports of the stand his had the same problem. i think we put 3 washers under each brace. they wont give and seem to bee working. tank has been full for a year now. the washers were probly 1/8" thick.. and 2 inch dia.. just a though :)

You know I think I might give that a try. I have been told to use 3/4 foam on the bottom of the stand to hrlp level it out, plywood, washers, woodshims, steel shims, etc. I think out of all of them I will try the washers, well see what happens. Thanks for the idea.
 
Ok guys I came up with a cost effective way to move the stand over without having to pick it up and put it down. Its to heavy, lol to keep doing by myself :eek2: so instead of paying $80 at the local lowes to rent a moving lift for 24 hrs. I decided to build one for $20 that I can use for however long I need to shim the stand just right and not have to worry about return the lift and not to mention its cheaper. lol :bum: So heres a few pictures of the tank mover I designed. (Side note: I origionally planned on using 2 x 6's for this but I went with 2 x 4's, the whole thing cost 20 bucks to build and only took 1 hr to make.)

In-case you dont know what moving lift i was refering to that can move your tank that is rented by Lowes it looks like this.

If you have to move a tank on a stand, cut up broomstick works good. I moved a 200 gal on the stand by myself. Roll it & keep taking the back broomstick & move it to the front.
 
Well time for a little update. I have aquired some more equipment here and there like 3- TLF Phosban 150's, one 26" Tall PM Carbon Reactor, 1 complete Koralin Calcium Reactor Setup, and the biggest of them all is a new TUBE STEEL STAND I had built in place of the wood stand I made because of leveling isses I was having with the woodstand being bowed in the middle causing me alot of headaches not to mention the floor being a little unlevel. But to resolve this issue I had the steel stand built out of 1.5" x 1.5" x 3/16" thick tube steel by a great welder named Evan. This stand was designed and planed by myself Evan just follwed my plans to a T and I know this puppy would hold my truck. Anyhow, I will post a few pictures below. I was going to go with powerder coating but I have read alot on reefcentral about people using several different methods on steel stands. One being painting it with a paint called POR-15 and the other a two step process of painting the stand with a good rust preventative primer then painting on a truck liner called hurceuliner. It has been proven to work on plenty of nice steel stands. I have choosen the later method with the hurcliner so I post pictures as I get the application of it finished. As well as new equipment shots and tank shots, etc.

Nice introduction to what Im sure will evolve into a beautiful reef! The steel stand looks great, only it needs a couple gallons of "truck bed love" :D

What program are you using for your schematics? Very neat, very clean.

Your tank is the second "monster" that I know of thats being built in Conroe!

Thanks for the compliments. Well the stand finally got 2 coats of truck bed love you were talking about, lol. :D

The program im using is called AutoDesk Inventor 11, I am a Mechanical Designer so I use powerful engineering programs all the time.

What other tank build do you know off going on in conroe? Does the guy have a screen name so I can check it out, thanks for stoping by.
 
UPDATE!!!

Ok guys and gal's, well I finally painted the stand with 2 coats of Herculiner and it came out great, this stuff is really gritty and stong, very strong, so I can rest at ease with any rusting, ever, lol. Anyhow, Ill post a couple pictures below of the stand in the house now with some of my equipment test fitting. Im actually in the process of making a equipment tray just in-case somthing springs a leak, it will catch the water from leaking onto my carpet. Anyhow, picts below.....

The other build in Conroe that I know of is being done by a guy named Keith, who goes by "keith" on MARSH. 300 Gallon, 4-sides viewable "island style" if Im not mistaking. Really nice guy too.

The Proxy server at my job wont let me see your pics so I will have to comment later on that part ;)
 
I used the herculiner before on a couple vehicles. Be careful as it can scratch off, and if it does, it could lead to rust issues. Another issue with herculiner is it has to be put on roughed up surfaces, i.e. if you primed it, you may have wanted to sand the primer with a rough grit first for the herculiner to adhere.

Looks like a very nice build, nice equipment choices!

Ok another little minor update! If anyone cares to know, lol. Ok well I completelty buffed the tank inside and out, you probably cant tell from the picture below but its really new looking now. I also finished my equipment tray, pict's to come, just waiting on the paint to fully cure and dry before placing it under the stand. I also added to my equipment/mechanical filtration a Emperor Aquatics 120 UV light setup, and man its freakin tall!! lol :eek1:

As far as stuff left to purchase:

4- tunze 6205's with 7095 controller
400 #lbs of Marco rock
200 # lbs of sand
1 heater
2 72" vho's super actnics setup
3 400 watt matal halides 10k's
marc r/o system w/ 2 55 gallon water storage containers

I think thats it,. lol. Just taking my time on gathering all the equpimnet and misc stuff. I'll continue to post updates as if people care, lol.

Lots of people read silently, so don't let the lack of a response mean no-one cares. I love tank build threads.

How did you end up with so many products from Precision Marine? You must live very close to their loading dock, where you can just back up and fill your truck full of goodies. :lol:
