Finding Nemo

No seriously, my clown fish has vanished. He was in his usual routine yesterday but I added some new fish and haven't seen him since. (they were all tangs and he's been living with 4 tangs). Anyhow, I've looked every where. And poor Dudley is no where to be found. I started to wonder if he jumped out and searched behind the tank. Unless the cat ate him (which I doubt---snobby cat) he's vanished.

I keep hoping he'll reappear. He always hangs out at the return outlet (hence why he is named Dudley since he thinks the return is an anemone---and ignores the anemone) but he hasn't been there. Hasn't come out for feedings or anything. And that's very unlike him.

I haven't seen any signs of a dead fish floating or on the bottom. I keep hoping he'll reappear. I was getting kind of attached to the little dummy.

Check overflows, sumps, filters.

I had a missing blonde Naso living in my overflow for 6 months.

If you have a sump check that. I have a clown that likes to take a ride down the overflow every once in a while. Never fails, when I can't find him in my tank he's down in the sump.

I have a couple small Ocellaris clowns that also host my return. Dumb fish. :-) The smaller of the two keeps finding his way into my overflow. There is a bit of a gap below the return that I believe he is squeezing through. Have you looked in your overflows or sump?

If he isn't in any of the equipment I would look under any decorations. They don't always die in obvious places. Hoping he is okay :-(

I have to complex a rock set up to move around. But he was there happy and healthy day before yesterday AM. Then I got in some new corals and fish and POOF.

Maybe if I find him I'll rename him Waldo.

4 new fish. Tangs. It is possible they spooked him into hiding. I take it this is a really big tank with a lot of rock.

Yes it's a 180 with very, very, VERY porous rock work. I webbed the rocked together with apoxie sculpt creating a multiple layered cavern with tunnels so I would have lots of place to put frags and lots of places for fish to hide.

Still no sign of him. I would agree that he might have gone into hiding, but he's never hid before more than a couple of hours. And I've checked all the hot spots with a flash light. That's the other thing, the rocks have so much space between them I can see almost completely through all of them at some angle or another. Any time he's hidden before I've always been able to find him even if he was way up inside of a "cliff".

Have any shrimp or scavenging invertebrates? We had a a clown that we couldn't find for a week. Turned out he died and a shrimp pulled him into a live rock crevice and stashed his body there for food.

Don't feel too bad. My clown disappeared 8 months ago. Still have no clue what happened. Then I thought I saw him behind my tank with a flashlight about a week ago. Turns out it was just an illusion with some scraps of paper...so no closure for me. Hope you have better luck.

Sorry, but it doesn't sound promising. A healthy clown doesn't disappear for very long. Sounds like the cycle of life happened...
