Finishing DIY stand help

What is the best way to finish the plywood panels to cover the stand. I'm looking for a black finish on them. Can I use something along these lines.

Oil based paint that you will need an oil based primer with.

There are many options that will look just as good for less $$$.

Traditional latex primer with exterior paint will work.

Most of us in the trade avoid using oil where we can when it comes to paint, and I would advise that as well.
I like kilz 2 for primer and there are many choices for paints.

I used kilz primer and Valspar paint primer combo.

Oil used to be the go to for marine or exterior, but it often becomes brittle w/ exposure over time.
It also has higher VOC typically.
The push seems to be going w/ water based products to be environmentally friendly.
I use oil for stains, I just have not found a water base stain that looks good or highlights grain well, looks flat, and I use a polyeurethane clear that remains flexible and seals well.
