Finnex Tanks Opinions

Just started researching them, looking here for some opinions ...
Anyone had one? How durable are they?
We tried the nano cubes before and twice they spontaneously cracked on us (this was about two years ago) in the middle of the night, not a noise you want to wake up to!

These look good though like the built in skimmer!

i have the 30 gallon and its great. way better than the nanocube, biocube, and aquapod. definetly pick one up.

I have one as well and have had it set up for about 2 days. I like it but right now i have a bit of a micro bubble problem if anyone wants to give me a heads up how to fix it with that model let me know. ^^ it might help you out as well if you decide to get one (30g M-tank).

how long have you had the tank set up bobby?
how does the skimmer perform?
and did you get one with lights or did you use your own lights?
thanks

Hey all I found some stuff, go to Nano-Reef.com and search Finnex
Im really considering this tank after finding some people on there with one...
I don't know about the buying the set with the light though....Seems strange how the moonlights come on with the actinics is there something Im not getting ???
Also considering the Tunze skimmer....so expensive though! Maybe wait and see how the built in skimmer performs first. Looks like people are having issues with algea with it though.

Torpus - I ordered one for my little brother this week. I'll snap pics when it arrives if you want?

From what I have researched the skimmer is not the best. It does the job well, and like mentioned up there the micro bubble problems. Those bubbles seem to go away once the skimmer breaks in.

The T5 lighting is able to be modded to have individual reflectors. The only drawback on buying their lighting over after market is the ballasts. I would never buy their light fixtures if I did not live in Chicago. The Finnex warehouse is somewhere down south here so any problem I have I can handle it local.

IMO if you get the tank get a nice T5 or halide fixture... Tek, Aquatinics, Sunpod, etc. The skimmer I really like the Tunze kind, but again just about any skimmer would perform better than the stock finnex.

thats the problem i've come to have w/ the finnex, the tank looks awesome, but with all the modding that goes into making it work great, i'm considering ordering a glass-cages trimmless tank the same dimensions as the finnex and doing the rear baffling myself and getting completely different components

The cadlights 39G is supposed to be awesome. i pre-ordered one for Feb 5th. its got a really good light and a Pin-wheel skimmer that is much better than the finnex's.

you guys gotta check this tank out

http://www.cadlights.com/product_info.php?products_id=116&osCsid=53717c70128c4d42774a34cece27b6f0

the options look alot better than all the nano's out there. i spoke with Chris over at Cadlights and he says that the Pin-wheel skimmer goes up to 100G and will skim out more than the Nano-sized Tunze and Remora skimmers

You have to be very careful with curved glass! The thing may spontaneously crack....keep a big empty bucket close.

haha yeah i heard. but so far the Cad tanks have a pretty good record of their tanks not cracking. i guess like seamed tanks have a higher chance for leaks seamless tanks can crack easier. one of the MAIN reasons i checked is that the CAD tanks use 8mm thick while the RSM, bio-cube, JBJ, Solana and even the finnex use 5mm or less. the 22G CAD i bought last year i use at work so i can afford to take the chance for spliilage or leaks. the 39G i want to put at home so i really dont want anything happening to it.

they dont list it on their website but i asked them if i can get it without the light and they say its ok. it comes out to $450 without the light, but after pricing out a separate light system you just cant get anything else that good for $250.

Torpus: yeah i had a AGA 30G at home about 7 years ago that made a mess with all the salt creep splashing and just me getting lazy. so with the new 22G, i decided to put it at work just in case if it will make a mess, it wont mess up my house lol. but luckily the surrounding area stayed pretty clean. i think its because the water is returned from the middle rather than the top like my old Skilter on the 30G

I think we've decided on the new cadlight 39, alittle bigger than we had wanted but they are some nice looking tanks....thanks for recommending them!!

do you know who makes the light? I'm just wondering if it is a good light, or if I should invest in the upgrade

can the tank be bought by itself?

I've emailed Ken at Ocean ReeFlections about this and he quoted me $199.00+shipping for the 20gallon tanks with no main light fixture.

Ok guys received the tank today. Overall I'm very impressed on the construction of the tank. Very solid and sweet looking if I may add. The T5 fixture it seems to me that it has been bumped up a notch from their old T5 fixtures. The ballasts mine came with are advance ballasts. (Tek uses these) I ordered mine from Aquacave.com (RC Sponsor) and they gave me by far the best deal any store could have given me!!! Best of all was the FREE SHIP!!! Honestly contact them about what discount you can get! I forgot the guys name, but he was super friendly on the phone. Thumbs up to the tank and Aquacave
