Fins & Fur in the Boro

Is Sailing the Seas
I went by there today for the first time & honestly I was disappointed. Every tank was just funky. Im talking cloudy as all get out it looked like a flour bomb had gone off. The corals however did seem to look good. 1 thing that kinda bothered me was there was a family/small group buying a bio cube & from what I gathered just from overhearing is they have never even owned a aquarium. The boy helping them proceded to sale them a few corals along with the tank which was still in the box.

Almost setting them up for failure. I was really looking for for out of that store, esp since I pass by there for work but I guess here in the Ville your not gonna beat AC.

Man, that just sucks.

Its because of stores selling people a new tank and corals on the same day that gives saltwater the "its so hard" reputation it has. *sigh*

It's the overwhelming urge to let profit override morals, Plus plain ole not knowing anything about what they sell. *sigh*
Bill:confused:

not good to hear that. some of the employees I have seen there know nothing of reefkeeping and such. I like the closeness of that store to me and wish them best for my sake, but good knowledgeable employees especially in reefkeeping are hard to find. I would gladly go work part time if my current schedule would afford it.

A few others told me the same....the lady owner, she used to comment in here ive told her that she gives really bad advice. She never said another word after that. I also did not go to the meeting that was held there cause I just plain don't trust them or like the way they do business.

She popped in a few days ago Mikey LOL.

I like the store jusi because it is close but she is only after the dollar I mean she tried to sell me a bamboo shark for my 55 gal. I hate to say it but I think I am going to have to give up on her just because she would rather lie to you get your money than say no a shark can't go in a 55. I knew the whole time it wouldent work I just wanted to see if she would rely sale it to me and she sure tried hard to

i dont know how some act around others (friends and such) IMO about 85 - 90% of LFS employees dont know jack crap....from hearing this i wont be going to these peple....i dont go to that chick over at petco in bellvue and ask her anything cause shes clueless....theres a moron over here in dickson (pets plus) that suckers people out of money.......guess we are stck with people at emerald bay and aquatic critters....other then that we are scewed.....again all in IMO

Yeah we do I think I am going to have to go online for a lot of stuff because I live way out in the boondocks and fins and fur is the only salt water stor withen 45 min of me and she is way overpriced anyways

Like Rhett said we need to help each other out but we also need to educate ourselves on this hobby or we'll just end up throwing a bunch of money down the toilet and completely burning out. I always double check the advice I get from the LFS folks with people here on the forum. Sometimes they're spot on and other times they're not. I've learned about 97.6% of what I know from the internet and members on this board. I know that I can always find what Im looking for here and for considerably less than what I'd find it anywhere else. None of the livestock I've gotten from any of the club members has died and I've met some really cool people here. I'll still shop the LFS but only if I cant find what I need or want on the board.

I am lucky enough to be close to emerald bay. That is my favorite store. They may not have the biggest selection, but the level of personal service you get is i think the best in the area. i haven't been bs'd there ever. I also got a free UV sterilizer, and two pumps, two large mag floats and some chemicals. I like the critter too, just too busy for my taste.

Same here. :) If I'm not mistaken, I believe Sean has a MS in Marine Biology. If he doesn't know the answer, he'll look it up real quick. Good stuff.

I love the Critter, too, though. Especially Chris. He is truly a great guy.
