Fire Shrimp and Zoas

Hey, anyone ever had a problem with fireshrimp and polyps?

I just got 2 smalls for my 75gallon... I read where julian sprung suggests that they feed off zoathids and sps corals!

now Im freaked out!

I have one..I've never seen him bother them...

I just feed my fire shrimp pieces of silversides when I'm feeding my anemone..he runs right up to my hand and takes it from me.

Where does Sprung say they feed off (I think you mean on) zoanthids? Are you sure you're reading what he says in the correct context, and that he's not just saying they will steal food from zoas and SPS.

Even if he does say it, he's pretty wrong in his asessment. It wouldn't be the first time...

Yes sorry, the N didnt get in there. haha...

He states this in his Aquarium Invert Pocket Guide (handbook) that he just put out. very popular... you can pick one up probably at any LFS.

yes, he may make a few errors... but hes human along with the rest of us, and we all make error ourselves.

I guess what I said sounded a little underhanded, didn't really mean it that way. I own a few of his books and have enjoyed them. It's not like I've never been wrong

Would you please quote the book on what it says regarding zoas and fire shrimp.

He might be picking little things out of your Zoas I've had mine in a tank that is dominated by Zoas and he does get on them but only for a second and they don't seem to mind?

I've had a fireshrimp for two years and he's never bothered any of my different zoas/palys either. Sometimes you might see him picking around or between the polyps but thats it - actually a good thing!

I did several searches lastnight and couldn't come up with a single thread where fire shrimp were eating zoanthids. These were searches that went back years. An inetresting fact, there are several more threads on here from people that think amphipods are eating their zoas than there are for fire shrimp.
