Firefish jumping behavior

Just curious -

Will a firefish jump when I do a water change?

Most of my inhabitants just find a place to hide - I just don't want to be in the middle of a water change, turn my back and have the little fella jump out an not see it happen, only to find him laying on the floor days later.

Other than that, I have glass tops.

My firefish always jump out, so to save time, after I get them home, I open the bag and throw them on the floor.

The answer is yes, it certainly good. My tanks are all completely covered yet I have had two different wrasses jump a good 4-6' in the air and land on the carpet. Both times were during feeding. Obviously I was right there and put them back in. You definitely will hear it if it does though.

paul, you crack me right up!

i always worry about this scenario with my hawkfish. so far, he hasn't gone carpet surfing.

My fire fish doesn't but I've had two wrasse jump out during feeding. A small McCosker's acutually jumped down the sleve of my t shirt. My wife thought I'd lost my mind when I started jerking my shirt tail trying to free the littly guy and get him back in the tank. He hid in the rock and didn't come out for two hours!

I have had firefish for around 7-10 years now and never had one jump during a water change. I have had some jump before I fully sealed the tank though

This was a fish very near and dear to me. i lost it 2 years ago. it is an aberrant fire fish with a large luminous pink spot. If you think about it, this fish has been collected for years by the thousands, photographed in the wild by the hundreds, yet they are all so cookie-cutter cloned it's kinda hard to believe.

this is the only aberration of fire fish i know and have seen anywhere on the internet. and how did i lose it? it jumped.

a horrible mistake that i will never forget until now. please, cover. they WILL jump.

here's a youtube video of it.
