i know that firefish can be kept in groups if added together, but what about 2 different species? specifically n. magnifica and n. decora. this would be to a 10g tank w/ no other fish

they well be fine firefish getalong with all fish with the same species are not they are very ick proned. well only live for about a year

I don't suggest people keep firefish in groups in all but very large aquariums. In an aquarium a group of them will often result in having one dominant fish left as time goes on. As peaceful as they are towards other fish, they can and will become very aggressive towards conspecifics and are often relentless in their pursuit of one another.

Also, I don't find them to be prone to ich nor that short lived. 5+ years isn't unheard of for a lifespan in captivity.

+1. Mine were quarantined for two weeks and showed no signs of ich. While I've only had them for a year, they're healthier than they've ever been

I wonder how a firefish(red) and a purple firefish would get along? I recently aquired a purple firefish and was considering adding a red one.

Has anyone tried this? I have a regular firefish and would like to add a purple firefish in my 24 gallon nanocube also.

My firefish seems to be ich resistant.

Even in the wild firefish are either single or in a mated pr. What usually happens when you mix purple and red is the red suffers, they don't seem to be as agressive as the purple. Like others have said, this agression is usually isolated to other firefish. My favorite is helfrichi, but not the cheapest.

Yes, unless you get a mated pair, more than one will likely become one. Maybe not in the beginning but eventually. I personally prefer the purple.

I kept both in my 180 and the purple would find the 2 red and chase them, moved him to my 72. Oh they were over 2 years old.
