firm believer of filter sock!

Outside of the bleach, can you use any form of laundry detergent to get them clean? I have two on order.

Cheers

I rarely find pods in mine, but I do find some mini stars that I pick out and place around my tank

Same here, I do find those tiny snails too.

I use the 25 micron socks from filterbag.com I got the kind with a plastic ring on the end. I have a 6 inch pvc coupling that i use to hold the socks. I change them out every day. It takes all of 20 seconds, and it doesn't allow stuff to rot in the sock for days.

I catch all kinds of pods in mine. I simply turn the sock inside out and throw the pods into the fuge.

Can you post a picture? Thx

To help with microbubbles, where would you place it? Would you put a return hose (hose returning water from the tank) directly into the filter sock? Would you put a filter on the skimmer outlet? I have a new sump and am getting lots of microbubbles.

Thanks.

I just received my filter socks and have one on the return pipe. My tank looks so much nicer now without having microbubbles all over.

The filter sock should be placed right under your tank return pipe

it is the drain line (into the sump), not the return from the sump back to the main tank. Sorry about the confusion

I wouldn't put carbon on the filter sock due to high turbulence.

Another filter sock user here and very happy. I have the sock
submerged partially in my sump, catching the water before it gets in the sump. The fine detritus is trapped, keeping my sump clean and makes my skimmer pump scheduled maintenance to a minimum.

No need to worry about vaccuming the sump with the thick brown powder.

I think this is what i use
http://www.filterbag.com/items/PONG100P3P.html

I have several that I alternate. I toss them in the washer with woolite soap when they get dirty.

I use filter socks too. The 100 microns from filterbags. com
The 25 micron has larger openings correct, and will not filter out smaller stuff. I always get this confused.

Yes and no, 25 microns means that it will let particles 25 microns and smaller through, the holes are smaller than the 100 micron.

I promised pics so:

Notice that there is actually an acrylic tray that holds the ring of the filter sock. Also notice that there is a second acrylic tray that has a small hole that the overflow hose fits in. This tray traps the sound and drastically reduces the noise coming into the sump. I think some run their input hose under water to combat this too. Also, I run a small bag of carbon and place it on the plastic ring supports of the filter sock.

So, the 50 micron filter socks will filter out smaller particles than the 100 microns, which it seems could remove more of the good stuff that the tank needs.

Yes. :) I'm not sure exactly what in our tanks are in the 50-100 micron range, though I do know DT's phytoplankton contains 2-12 micron organisms. Most people use ~100 micron sock.
