I think this is what i use
http://www.filterbag.com/items/PONG100P3P.html

I user a similar one as this-- just longer-- 14" vs 7"-- costs 20 cents more per bag....

I bought 10 of these-- http://www.filterbag.com/items/PONG100P4P.html

With shipping was $30-- I swap it out every 2-3 days and so every 3 weeks throw them in the washer-- hot water and a little bit of bleach (with an extra rinse)-- come out looking new-- I also catch the occasional pod-- It is harder to get them back out with the longer bag I use-- for this reason you might want to use the one that joecos uses (besides it being a little cheaper).. even if you only occassionally use these (for an hour or so after blowing out your rock) I think you will benefit and get some extra detritus exporting done..

Are those $2.05 each or is it a bag of 50 for $2.05 ??

Where can you find the larger filter mount brackets? The only one I have found is 4 inches and I have dual overflows. It is hard to filter both overflows through it. I need a larger filter mount bracket. Thanks!

Not quite sure, I've only seen the 4" variety sold. Mine is DIY, with the hole cut out of the acrylic plate.

I found from the get go that a filter sock stuffed with carbon and placed in the direct path of the water returning to the sump really helped. I placed mine in the rstriction before the baffles where the water had to flow through it.

Even with the sock there was some problems with micro bubbles returning to the tank. You just have to be creative in the placement of pumps, skimmers, return piping etc in the sump. One cheap and easy thing I found that works very well is using carbon filters for freshwater tanks. I have no idea what type of filter setup they go to but they are available anywhere they sell filtration stuff for freshwater tanks. It's a slide in filter which has a floss material attached to a black plastic backing. Between the floss and backing is a layer of carbon. It's really a negligable amount of carbon.

I take 2 of these filter elements and place them in front of my return pump. I took 2 pieces of 1" pvc the width of my sump and cut a slot length-wise through each piece. I place the filters side by side in the slots sandwiching the filters top and bottom with the pvc. Then I place the filters in front of the pump. All the water that returns to the tank has to pass through these filters.
This was the absolute best debris and micro bubble catch I have used yet.

From all the bags I have looked at on the site 25 is the minimum order. How did you get 10?

From filterbag.com
*Most filter bags come 50 pieces per box. Our minimum order for standard items is 25 pieces, but we do impose a $1.99 handling fee if you order less than a full box. Custom items must be ordered in full boxes. There is no minimum on kits, equipment, parts, or accessories.

:eek2: The "25 pieces" is in red, so it makes me think that they recently changed their minimum. I just ordered about a month ago..... :( You could always ask though.

I purchased mine about 4-5 weeks ago-- I only bought 10-- and my total cost was right around $30-- shipped to my door.

I just tried the link I used before (that I posted before)-- looks like they did raise their prices to $2.46 each and a minimum order of 25 now....

link to my shopping cart--
http://www.filterbag.com/viewcart.php?XPONG100P4P=10

looks like you will need to get together with local reefers and split orders if you want less then 25 now

I was able to order 10 bags from www.filterbag.com as late as this past Monday (4/3/06). It is a shame that they changed there policy. They must have received hundreds of orders through this forum posting:).

The price is still right, I just don't need 25 bags and don't want to spend that much for filter bags.

Is it really not worth their time to divide a box by 5 instead of 2? They get to collect that extra $2.00 on every order of less than 50 anyways.

yeah that blows, they probably saw lots of clicks coming from here and jacked up the minimum, totally unfair practice :( if they had 10 minimum i would order, of well i guess they lost another customer....

I have a 1 micron bag sitting in my garage. This sounds like it's too fine; anyone have an opinion? I guess I could use it a few hours a day to catch junk but probably not 24/7.

Yep, too fine. Probably even too fine for just using a few hours a day. You'll be catching all sorts of beneficial plankton in the 5-20 micron range.
