First BC 29

Over 50 or over .50? Just keep doing water changes to bring them down. You can also add 0.5mL of vodka every other day and your nitrates will come down BUT MAKE SURE TO KEEP SKIMMING HEAVILY THE WHOLE TIME.

If it's under 20ppm, it doesn't matter much. The reason to chase 0 nitrates is to minimize algae. If you're not getting algae growth, then you can have higher nitrates.

Oh sorry. Then yea, that's a problem. Still decaying matter in the tank and the filtration system isn't built up yet. You could even put a sponge in if you still have one around to spike the nitrate from the nitrite, then lower the nitrates over time. Just don't leave the sponge in long term, only as a temporary nitrate boosting site.

I just did my weekly 5g WC, some sand cleaning and normal maintenance. I have a ammonia badge in my tank and it has been 0 this hole time. I'm going to check in a few hours and see if that wc helped any. I have those black sponges I'll throw in for now.

That huge diatom bloom is mostly gone now.

First week I got the torch, it was found under a frag rack.

Here it is today after 4 weeks.

So I lost another turbo today, I'm kinda dumbfounded on why some things are thriving and others are not. I would think with my high levels of nitrites with some ammonia I'd not see the corals like the GSP and torch exploding. Still can't narrow down the cause of this 2 week long and going strong spike. I have a guy in my area wondering why himself. He is coming to check my tank and see for himself this Friday, with 15 years of salt tanks I hope he can give me answers. I'm starting to see another diatom bloom as well. Last week my skimmer was pulling some nasty brown skim, i cleaned it with my WC and now it's not skimming anything but clear water and not foaming up like it used to. Thinking maybe a nice HOB skimmer that will work better than this AL 115 but IDK. Maybe add a sump. Last week I noticed a bunch of small feather duster looking guys on the rocks and back plastic, small ring white guys about the size of a pinhead.

So thing are starting to look better, I took some water to LFS for a full test.

Ammonia 0
Nitrites .25
Nitrates 5
PH 7.8
salt 1.026
calc 480
DKH 9
temp 77-79

I picked up a few frags the Friday afternoon

So I grabbed a nice size frag this week, (the wife wanted it) It's a GSP but white, I believe it has a few names like white star polyp, neon or pink. My LFS said when you frag it he wanted it because it isn't all that easy to get. When first looking at it I thought it was dying GSP myself.

We'll see how it does over time. If it is dying GSP, people will be more interested in what managed to kill it :p

If there is a parasite/bug that is only killing that, I'd be interested in a frag!

I hope that it's just a cool morph, and doesn't drive you crazy with growth everywhere. About a year ago or so I had to pull my rockwork apart to peel away every last trace of GSP that I could find in my rocks. A year later, it's back, and probably in another 6 months, I'll have to trim it all back again.

I hope my isolating it from my main rock work helps the spread lol If it lives and grows I'll send you a frag :) Back in the 90's and early 00's it was pretty popular from ready old forums.

So I ordered the intank fuge basket and using some leds from rapidled controlled by my storm for fuge lights, 2 660 reds and 1 420-430 blue. Also added a hammer frag with 5 heads I got for 25 bucks, color looks good and out after a few hours in the tank. Here is that white polyp next to the GSP, white has way bigger polyps.

Yep, run of the mill looking bristleworm.

For the fuge LEDs, why red and blue? I don't think algae uses blue for its photosynthesis, I thought only red, which is why people usually do red/white for fuge/algae reactor LEDs.

I read it somewhere, guess I can just use my white and 2 reds then. My tank is still having issues with nitrite tho, I have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates and 1.00 nitrites, been like this for 3 weeks now, so strange!

I've prepped a holding tank for my coral and will be taking my DT down and cleaning it and adding some more sand that I've lost. Cleaning the rock of algea and setting back up and rethinking my aquascape. My nitrites are over 2.0 now with no explanation as to why.

So I got all the coral moved over and under my old PC lighting, they like it better I think. I'm kinda confused about them, I'm not sure whats wrong with my leds.... I found a dead stinky nassarius snail under a rock, must be my issue I've been having.
