First BC 29

Nope, the first way sounds exactly right. Once you've got 1/4" or so of water left in the bottom, swirl it to get any precipitates, and dump it out. Don't need a doser, I'm sure the ATO is slow enough.

So this is the Refractometer I got, its way off from the hydrometer, guess I need to check it against the LFS?

Hydrometer 1.022
Refractometer 1.027

Tell me why i bought the same refractometer from amazon as well, and the hydrometer still gives me better results, i dont know if i should buy some calibrate fluid but the results i get when using it are disappointing

I checked mine against a calibrated refractometer and it was only off my .05, if you don't have one to check against I'd get the fluid.

I would buy the fluid (or see if the LFS has some you could use for free). The fluid is worth buying for $6-10 or whatever it costs to save you headaches down the road. And if you leave it sealed, it largely lasts forever.

More than likely the hydrometer is off more than the refractometer is. But you won't know until you test.

So I'm going to grab a gallon of BRS kalkwasser from a local distribution store and get started. Has anyone had a purple fire fish? I was thinking off adding that for my 3rd fish.

Whats my clown doing?

I love my purple fire fish, has amazing colors and is out front and center for viewing the majority of the time.

My clownfish started doing that with my frogspawn approx 8months ago, now he permanently hosts the frogspawn practically never leaves it other than to eat. Check the thread I just put up, you can see him buried in my frogspawn from today's picture.

Hmm I guess mine likes the hammer then. I dropped my 2nd clown in and after a few minutes of fighting I think they are ok. I picked up a nice purple dottyback tonight and he is in the QT.

My clownfish will do that to my hammer but prefers the frogspawn at this point.

That's totally normal for the clowns they are just establishing dominance.

Are all dottybacks timid? This one is an ORA orchid dottyback, he hides when I'm close, but he is eating anything I put in the tank after I walk away.

hmm, well my 2 clowns have the left side of the tank so the dotty should be fine with the right half I hope.

Orchid dottybacks are usually the exception. Most other dottybacks are extremely aggressive, but the orchid is more mild-mannered than the others.

So I have been doing a weekly cleaning and a 3 gallon WC as my normal routine, last WC was on the 19th July other than my nitrate up to 3 and my mag dropped to 1440 everything else is holding the same. My question is if my tests show good is there a point to changing water if everything is at or under your desired numbers?

Yes, because you're replenishing the things you're not testing for too, I. E. Trace minerals.

And if nothing else, it's just good to keep the habit consistently.

Awesome thread! I am going through same stage right now, diatoms in the sand and a lot of brownish algae on my rocks. Hopefully it dies down soon!

I bought a hammer hoping mine would do that. But it is not interested at all. Maybe mine is to small...

my hammers and one torch head are all really small. Really, the clowns prefer a cave-environment than they do a torch/hammer/anemone. Take a look at what the clown breeders are doing. The only reason my clowns "host" my torch coral, is because it happens to be in front of a nice little cave where they were laying eggs when they were doing that.

I cant seem to get my corals to open all the way (frogspawn and hammer)
My parameters are in check. My salinity is at 1.027, Ca-430, Alk- 10.2
What do you think?
