First BC 29

I cant seem to get my corals to open all the way (frogspawn and hammer)
My parameters are in check. My salinity is at 1.027, Ca-430, Alk- 10.2
What do you think?

Don't ask me... My frogspawn and hammer haven't really done especially well in my tank. I blame it on the water being "too clean", but honestly, I don't know why mine aren't doing well either.

If nothing works, you can try feeding them directly. They'll eat food. Don't force them to eat, but sprinkle some small pieces of frozen food on them, and they should take it in.

I think my clown is actually killing my fancy Australian gold torch. :fun5:

Could it be a flow or light issue?

Could it be a flow or light issue?

In one of my earlier tanks I had to adjust placement to get a frogspawn to come out. Not sure if it was flow or light, but I just kept moving it until I got good results. And then my clown found him and decided he looked like an anemone. It was pretty cool to watch, but I don't think it was great for the frogspawn, like ReefWreak said.

I've got a green frogspawn in my 22 now and I'm afraid I don't have enough flow, but it's fully extended. And the clown hasn't decided to host, either....

My hammer and frogspawn are huge, I think low flow is best. Medium was to much on the soft extensions I think. My tank is pretty clean but I feed then clean up any floaters afterwards. Skimmer hasn't pulled anything in over a month.

Really??? Low flow? I'll have to try that. By the way do you like your tunze nano ato? I just got mine.

Check out this video its how I have mine, they really like the back and forth. I like the nano ATO it's been running flawless for 5 months now. The frogspawn and hammer have doubled in size since this video last month.

So my clowns are settling in and getting very protective. I went to feed with my baster and they attacked me and bite me, first time ever. Little turds! The 3 fish are getting alone even tho they hang out in the same spot, 2 clowns and a orchid dotty. So my right side of the tank is empty only to be visited by snails and hermits. Most of the corals are doing great and growing, even my near death acan lord recovered and has 3 new heads. One of my polyps has been closed and not looking good so i moved it into a more shaded area to see if the light was to much. I've also added a pretty large colony of pipe organ on the right, it's really neat.

Rearranged the lights and added a lime and blue, now have 4 channels with white, royal blue, colors and UV on each. So now I have red, green, blue and lime in the center, UV on the outside, royal blue filled in and white on the edges. Colors and UV on 700ma and white and blues on 1000ma. With the more control the corals have really started to come out. I found out if your kit is the soldier kind you need to make sure you don't ground the wire to the side of the LED, the metal comes up to the top of the printed board.

Little bit better wire management this time.

My LFS gave me a torch coral I need to pick it up tomorrow, he said it was under a frag rack and 2 out of 3 heads died. The head is only the size of a dime. Now that I have a good light I think it will be ok.

what light kit is that i like your arrangement

i used green instead of the lime but it really stands out may switch over to lime i got mine from rapidled but put them on heatsink bars think i like that better but i kept mine 6" above the tank

I got the full spectrum kit from rapidled, added 2 drivers and changed out some LED's. Got the storm controller and currently sitting at 100 RB, 10 colors, 10 UV and 15 whites. Using only 40% the unit is capable of. I adjusted my RB's to the corals liking then used the rest for how i light the look of the tank. The reds and greens really stand out if there to high.

which storm controller are you using and is it possible you can send a picture of how its setup I would like to use one right now I'm only using manual periometers. also what drivers are you using

thanks for your help

Just the base storm. I have blues on 1000mah driver and whites, colors and UV on 700mah drivers. Blues are set to 100 everything else at 10. Ramp up is set at 90 mins with blues first and rest come on at 30 mins.running 12 hour cycles.

So since adding my 2nd clown they both have gotten really aggressive, they bite me every time I'm feeding the corals now. Little shits!

They might be bonding or getting ready to lay eggs. It's annoying, but a good thing. Good luck, can't wait to see what's in store!

Hmm ok, it seems the new one is the dominant one and when the other gets out of line it lays kinda sideways and vibrates. I'm happy all 3 are getting alone, its kinda cool watching the 3 chill out under the frogspawn and nestle in the hammers. I guess i'll have to make up a long feeding device. Thinking turkey baster and glue a hollow acrylic tube on the end about 18" long.

"vibration" = sexy time dance ;)

Just watch out for the frogspawn and hammer health. My aussie gold torch is just about dead now from the female clown rubbing on it too much and me not stopping her.

hmm ya my green hammer is the target, I do keep an eye out for it tho. Do you move it if they are bugging it to much?
