here is my first clam. It is about 8-9". I'm not sure of they type it is, but is there anything I should know. I have a 65g and have 2- 600 maxijets. Will that be good enough for flow?

Um...that looks like a Gigas. I am very new to clams so I might be wrong, I am studying Fatherree's book now to get my first one next week. If I am right though you will have to find it a new home soon.

gigas is a true giant clam, reaching over 4 feet in lenght and weighing over 500 pounds. That is in the wild, the largest one in captivity is probably the one in the Waikiki aquarium. I forget what size that one was though. Either way your 65 gallon will quickly become small for it.

I got this one from a local LFS. It was a steal. I had to get it. I plan on upgrading to a 210 or a 250 in january.

The first day I got it, it opened up really big, today it is not open as much. Is this normal? What could cause this?

could just be it acclimatizing to the new tank but .....
what fish / inverts do you have?
what are your params, and how do you maintain them?
can you post a pick of it not as open?
did you QT or examine for snails and hitchhikers before putting him in the tank?
was there a big change in lighting params between the two tanks?

I have a yellow tang, sixline wrasse, true pecula clown, and a cardinal. I have a coral babded and a cleaner shrimp, regular turbo snails and blue and orange legged hermits, water perm were good a couple days ago when I had them tested. My calcium was a little high at 470. ph at 8.4. nitrates at 10 no nitrites or phosphates. Is there an article I can read about how clams are from day to day? This was an expensive clam so I dont want to lose it. Thanks for the help. the clam is open as much as the pictures above. Yesterday it was fully opened.

I dose the A B solution. I do test for alk but I think my test kit is wrong. I use a hagan test kit
