My wife just bought me my first clam it is a crocea about 2 inches long, our LFS also sold her some phyto to feed the little fellow,my question is where should I place him in the tank I have dual 250 watt halides and 220 watts of vhos where should I put him in the tank on the rocks or on the sand hi or low or in the middle!!

****A new Crocea owner myself*****

from my research the Crocea is a shallow water clam. Therefore it is has the highest light requirement of any of the clams. Also they prefer to anchor themselves onto rock instead of in the sandbed. All of the info I read before purchasing said to place it on the sandbed with a rock below it to anchor to. But the problem I found with that is that the time it takes to anchor itself (a few days to a few weeks). So I placed mine halfway up the tank on a small rock and placed some rocks around it to prevent it from falling or tipping over. After a few days it was attached. When you think it is attached give it a couple more days (trust me) to be sure. It should get enough light there and then you can move it around where ever it seems the happiest. I have mine sitting about 10" below a 175 w Mh with a 130 w pc fixure about 6" above that. Mine seems to happy as a pig in poop.

But like I said I am a new owner and this is what I did.

i had 7 clams in the sandbed of my current 90g.they all did just fine at the bottom with halides and vhos.now they are all in a crushed coral bed of my clam only tank.id say place it where you think it looks nice, your lighting is plenty strong enough to give light at the bottom if you want it there.if your worried about it not attaching to the sandbed, then place it close to the rockwork,it will grab onto it.

ok thanks Wampas and checkinhawk my wife just surprised me with this so I want to do the best for it Thanks for all the input!
