First clam!

So I've debated getting one since about the time I started a tank. Yesterday at Fragtoberfest one caught the attention of my wife and here we are, I own a maxima. About 3 inches long, and looking pretty good so far. I buried a small rock in the sand for it to attach to but I may move it into a different rock if it hasn't attached already. Only thing I'm worried about right now is the mouth is gaping which I've read isn't good. But it wasn't doing that in the frag tank, and since I just got it that may be why. Thoughts?

So clam has been doing well but recently started looking worse. Figured out after a bit that it is pyramid snails. Hope I'm not too late addressing them, the clam is in a QT tank now with some rock to sit on. I manually remove a lot of snails last night, but in all the movement the clam dropped all the rock rubble it was holding on to. Hope that didn't hurt it. Now it's responding to movement and light, but I think it looks bad, has some preying bad gape. Read a thread here about tying it shut. Think I should give that a go?

How is it today? I'd give the tying a shot but I'm not sure if they mean to tie the shells without covering the mantle or including the mantle?

Didn't make it sadly. I feel bad, should have recognized there were pyramid snails on it.
