Just thought I would let everyone know Quality Marine has the first tank bred Clarions in the Americas! Not sure of the pricing yet but at any rate this is a huge step forward in our addiction

Sadly it's clarion not clarions, only one fish so I can imagine it carries a hefty price! Nevertheless, any captive bred angel is exciting news. This is one species I hope will be focused on.

The Tank Bred Holacanthus clarionensis has been in my office aquarium here at our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility in Rhinelander Wisconsin, home of the Divers Den, since August 6th.

I personally worked with Tropic Marine Center in the UK as well as the great folks at Quality Marine to obtain this very special fish, so I am not sure how it was "offered" to anyone. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding somewhere?

The Clarion settled in immediately and is incredibly healthy. My plan is to list this iconic fish in the Divers Den section of LiveAquaria.com mid to late September.

The retail price has yet to be determined but the cost of the fish was very expensive.

Kindest Regards,
Kevin Kohen

so happy this news is out...
a cb clarion spending a vacation in your tank is going to produce an even more perfect fish, lol...
what a special fish!

Thank you for the confirmation Kevin. That's great news regarding its health. My birthday is in September...I may have to signup my wife's email address to the DD Updates :)

Yes sorry I misspoke when I said Clarions, but where there is success with one there will be more to come. I wasn't suggesting they would be cheaper then a wild caught one, but years from now I expect the price to come down significantly

I can't wait to see pictures of this beautiful fish. I'll be keeping an eye on my sneak peeks for sure. Congrats Kevin and the DD group!

I too would love to see some new pics of this little beauty! I've always wanted a clarion but never had the money or space for one.

Oh man, I love it! On a side note, it looks like something was nipping on your Interrupta's tail. I may have to talk a package deal when both are ready :)

Glad to see the Clarion is in good hands.

BTW Kevin, thanks for the awesome job you did conditioning that Bandit you had in your office tank. With the way it has been eating, I may have to take on another job just to keep it fed. The fish is a beast, and eats out of my hand. It is also one of the more docile Bandits I have owned.

Hopefully I will have some time to get the camera out before MACNA.

In the meantime here is short video of this spectacular fish enjoying a mid afternoon snack.

This tank is ine of the nicest tanks that i have ever seen.
With everything in there, how are you going to catch the clarion when it's time to sell

I paired up the two tiny Centropyge interrupta at the same time I added the Holacanthus clarionensis as three fish are better than one easy target. The Centropyge act like they missed one another as they were maintained in separate displays over the last 5-6 months. All three Angels show no sings of aggression whatsoever towards each other and they are all buds actually.

The problem was my beloved Cook Islands Chrysiptera galba who resided in that display for 6 months, and I was prepared to take corrective action as the Canary would easily go in and out of my trap during feeding time.

As I anticipated the galba most likely wouldn't take a liking to fish his shape or size being introduced into "his tank" so he was trapped immediately. Unfortunately he shredded the caudal fin of the larger of the two interrupta before I could blink, but I am happy to say its healing perfectly and growing back normally so he will be fine in no time.

Thank you all for your kind words, they are greatly appreciated.

When its time for them to leave, I feed in a trap for 3-4 days and dont even attempt to catch the desired fish. This way they are comfortable, and used to feeding in this manner. When the time is right, I close the door on the trap to safely capture the fish or fishes that are departing. I have this down to a science as I trap all fish now out of these tanks. With some patience and tenacity its a fairly simple task.

That tank is awesome in the video. I do have a question for you DFS though, does your store in Rhinelander sell fish, corals, and inverts like at fish store? Or is it more like a supply area. I live in Green Bay and always considered driving up there to look at some livestock for my reef, but was never sure if you guys sold fish locally.

Not trying to steal the thread, I am just curious.
