Fish and Banded Coral Shrimp

Genera

Blink and you're dead.
Are any smaller fish (<4-5in) safe with a Banded Coral Shrimp (Genus Stenopus)? I've some people say that they do eat fish and that they don't, but are there a few tough fish that don't taste good or something?

ive tried two different coral banded shrimp both would eat any and every small fish it could catch

Darn. Could you have a fish that has a defense that the shrimp would stay away from such as fang gobies. Would a coral banded shrimp go for one of the venomous fang gobies?

the only thing that comes to mind is maybe a marine betta. i know mine could beat up the coral banded shrimp if he got to nippy. marine bettas are predatory towards shrimp but a coral banded is a little to large for a small marine betta.

A full sized marine betta will likely eat the Stenopus shrimp for dinner (or breakfast, or lunch), especially if you don't feed it for a while.

Though not all Stenopus shrimp will go after little fish. The smaller species are actually very peaceful and also prettier than S. hispidus.
I have a pair of S. tenuirostris and they haven't harmed any of my fish.

great info

I have one in my 120 with small fish. it doesn't bother them except when they swim close to it's cave and it only seems to be warning them to back off. I think the problems are with sick or dying fish. on the other hand my 3 peppermints seem to have disappeared.
