Fish compatability

Hey everyone,

My new 90g tank is up and running. In 30+ years of keeping fish this is my largest tank and the first with a sump. Added/transferred about 50 of LR last week along with 40g of "old" water from other tanks.

I never had room for more than a few small fish before and have some questions about compatibility.

I have 2 false percs, ricordia, some mushrooms, zoos, a few differnt softies, GSP, and a frogspawn. The standard snails, hermits, and a few peppermint shrimp will almost be int he mix.

Someday down the line I want to add a mandarin dragonet but that is way off.

A few questions.

I was thinking about something to work the sand (average 2" deep) but was concerned about compatibility with the mandarin because he will be added later, if not last.

Would a lawnmower blenny create any type of problem with a mandarin?

Any other suggestion for sand stirring fish?

I will have some sand dwelling cerith and nassarius snails as well as a fighting conch.

I also would like a larger fish like a tang, rabbitfish, butterfly, or small angel.

Maybe a psuedochromis or something.

My main questions regard compatibility with the existing corals and the future mandarin?

i would suggest a sea cuc for sand sifting as well as maybe a sand sifting star fish. if you are goin to be keeping corals low near the sand, sand sifting fish usually will dump sand over them. lawnmowers dont really sift the sand they mroe go after algea on the glass and rocks because it is easyer for them to get than on fine sand. but it will be fine with a maderin. there are many different tanks that you can get for that tank. most any of the bristle tooths stay small. i personally like my Tomini tang, not very common but a cool little guy with personality. foxfaces are cool as well. im not a big fan of dottybacks but they can be a nice color addition if they stay out and not hide.

Myst butterflies and angels are at least iffy around corals/inverts, so be careful there... personally, I'd stick with a smaller tang.

Can't really help with the sand sifting issue though.

I have this great little guy who reallllly likes to sift sand.He spends all day taking it in his mouth and out his gills as for deep in the sand I havent seen him do that yet

sleeper gold head goby got him at our least favorite lfs a cou[le of weeks ago

Mine may be looking for a home if my wrasse doesnt leave him alone because my other tank doesnt have sand on the bottom

I would stay away from the Sand Sifting Star - esp if you want a mandrian down the line - they will eat all the good critters in your sand bed. The cuke is a good idea and a detrus eater.
