Can anyone help me ID these FISH?

They were found in low tide pool, near a North Atlantic beach. They bury in the sand at night (sometimes), and are about 1 inch long.

Any help with their ID is appreciated.

Thanks

We catch them here in NC all the time. It is a species of killifish (Fundulus sp.) I am not sure of the exact species that you have, but the most common around here is the F. Grandis. We call them mud minnows or mummichogs. They are a super resilient species and can even breath air from the waters surface. They are capable of surviving in salt, brackish and fresh water. They are a very good bait fish.

I've seen killfish before, but these guys look different to my untrained eye.

I'll take more clear picture and post it when I get back later today.

Thanks

That is them. They do not look like your typical killifish. Search mummichog and the related species on google and you should be able to find your fish.
