fish list for 180? compatible?

Im about to get a 180 that will be a predator tank. Im thinking this is what I want
Cortez stingray (really want not sure if tank is big enough. if you have a cortez ray please coment)
maybe a miniatus grouper
im thinking maybe a tang or 2 but i heard they peck out the stingrays eyes
maybe an emperor angel
and a reef safe trigger maybe a niger or blueline.
tank will have mininmal live rock with a large skimmer thanks

I like my Yellow Spot Ray more than a Cortez Ray and it only gets a 10" disk, so it might work in a 180 (and it's cheaper). I'm pretty sure you have who nips at the eyes confused: I've heard the Angels do it, not Tangs. I wouldn't recommend the Grouper, but if I had to, I'd recommend the Clown Grouper instead because it is smaller. Just my thoughts.

Angels will pick at rays, and I know from experience acanthurus species of tangs will pick at them as well. Grouper might be ok but IMO rays should be species only. And I think 180 is still too small. I would say 240 is the bare minimum size you need to keep one in. There are others that will say a 180 is ok but if you do it you will need to have almost all of your rock (if not all of it) in your sump.

Im okay with having very little rock in the tank. what is a clown grouper? also would a dogface puffer or porcupine work?

All angels, and I would think puffers would pick at your ray also. Anything that picks at live rock, or pics at the sand will not work with a ray because the ray's body, tail, or eyes look like food. I've tried quite a few "non-aggressive" fish in a 300 and it just didn't work.

This is a Clown Grouper. My Porcupine doesn't mind the ray, but the Dogface doesn't like him.
