great pics, but you didnt take them through the glass, did you? please tell me how you managed to take pics with flash through the glass or how awesome it was diving with the sharks ;)

Thank you. Yes, all pics were taken through the glass, even sharks:) I play a lot with my flash settings (every tank is different) and use a large diffuser on the flash. Public aquariums are usually very dark so I've had to use flash.

could you tell me how to position the flash to the glass? did you edit your photos afterwards? and did you clean the glass before taking shots? whenever i go to public aquariums, there are lots of smears from small children rubbing their noses on the screen ;)

they are great, no one whos ever taken pictures with flash against an aquarium glass could have thought there was glass between the camera and those fish ;)

greetings

You need to be perfectly perpendicular to the glass and as close to it as you can, otherwise you may get a reflection of the lens on the glass (it happens often). Other than that, try to find a spot where there are less scratches on the glass and if you use diffuser on the flash fire it only at 1/4 or so power you should get a desired effect. As far as editing goes I sometimes correct for particles floating in the tank or big heavy scratches on the glass panel. Hope that helps. Check my homepage if you would like to see more of my photographs.

and what flash? a slave flash with manual control? how far from the camera do you place it? is it also placed directly on the glass? thanks for your previous answer and sorry for the lots of questions, but your images are amazing..

Thanks everyone. The flash I'm using is Nikon SB-800 and I fire it remotely thru cheap transmitters, all handheld. And yes, it's as close to the glass as I can get.
