fish problem PLEASE HELP

This is the most wierdest thing I have ever seen in this hobby,

I can keep sps and lps no problem at all.

but when it comes to fish they are dropping like files.

I have added this fish Spotted Hawkfish, and a lawnmower blenny into the tank 3 months ago.

I also up graded my flow to a vortech mp10 which I have on reef crest mode max all the time, except for the night because I lower the flow to little less then half.

I have lost 4 fish in a total of 2 month span and now it is personal because I had one chromis from when I started this hobby 2 years ago, go missing on me today.

I have a 40 breeder with a net over the tank

I have 0 ppm, trates .03, salt 1.27, light are left on for 6 hrs a day. Alk is 10 cal is 470 and mag is 1500.

I have no clue:mad2::mad2::mad2: I am wondering if it is the hawlk and if so he is going to fine a new home at pets wearhouse or can it be the over flow of the tank.

I also started to add mb7 brightwell and micro bact. as well. I have cut feeding down to 4 times a week.

All I have left is a algie blenny and the hawlk.

Also do any of you know if the hawlk will nipp sps???????????

I am wondering before I :blown:

First off, sorry for your losses..

What is the highest water temp you get? I am thinking about oxygen levels.

Anthony,

What do the fish look like? Or do they just go missing without a trace? What type of fish have you lost?
Doubt its the overflow. Did any of them show signs of being sick? Are you sure you don't have a Mantis shrimp hidden in the rocks?

If you aren't finding any of the dead fish, then it sounds like there is a good possibility it is a predator causing your problems rather than water parameters. Unless the dead fish are hidden in the rocks? You should try and do a thorough check in the rocks because if the fish are decaying in there your water parameters may to start to decline.

I am buying all the fish from one lfs

I do not think it is amantis because I do not hear a snapping at night.

I have check the rocks and I have good cuc so I think they are eating the fish.

I have no clue at this point as to why this is happening. The fish look so healthy and were swimming around fine.

I find it wierd that the only 2 fish left are the hawlk and the lawnmower and this all happens when the lights are on and I am at work it is like they know I am out of the house so lets start s**** with the other fish in the tank.

If you have any idead please let me know. I also lost a 6 line lyer tail anthis chromis a female lyer tail anthis.

I was thinking mantis too, maybe try a red light and see if you can see anything at night. I used to have a red light pc over one of my tanks, it was cool to watch the night life as well, from what I remember most organsism dont recognize the red spectrum so you can observe the tank at night without disturbing them.

Another idea, may be the Hawk, I have never had 5 spot hawk, but I did have a flame hawk and had similar issues that you were having.

Then I finally cuaght him attacking my fish, and swalling shrimp whole. He terroized the poor shrimp, to the point I didnt see two peppermints for months and months, I thought they were dead, and he finally after I removed the hawk they came out, it must have been one giant relief for them lol..

I also finally caught the Hawk, and he had even ripped the eye out of a 6 line wrasse.

Good luck I hope you find the cause.

very intresting you bring that up because he was starting with the 6 line, I have to get my trap back from Jarret and see from there. I thought it was the vortech.

I loved the flame hawk, but he was killing everyone, and I added him to the tank last as well, and he wasnt even that big when I bought him. He also made the previous six line wrasse jump.

I have had an MP20 since it was first released in my 20g long. Never had a problem with my clowns, expept I will catch them body surfing the current once in a while lol

I cought my chromis and my lyer tail doing that but now they are gone so. I have a fish grave yeard out in the yard.

I have to see if it is the hawlk then he is the only one in the tank becides the lawnmower.

The Blenny isn't a free swimming fish so I doubt the hawk will bother him. Hawks usually dart at fish swimming above them.

I liked my flame hawk. However, after he had a proud smile, while he was sitting on my dead cleaner shrimp perching, I got rid of him.

However, these guys are very cool, the way they perch. As you said, they are not that large, so I thought it was some one else.

Now my wrasse loves to eat my clean up crew. Obvious problem for me. However, she seems to do it with a vengeance of really biting hard on the rocks and glass.

Just a thought, maybe one or more fish are hungry?

yes I am thinking that, I stopped feeding every day because of the ppm and trates in the tank now I have zero ppm and .2 trates (saliferd for the trat and hanna for the ppm)

I am thinking it is the hawlk, because last night the lawnmower was swimming around and he went up to a rick that is pretty high up to eat the algie and the hawlk saw him going in the up wards motion towards the top of the tank and he was right up his **** with looking to see if there was any food.

Kinda made me think

Stop feeding someone and everything around him starts to look like food. Remember the bugs bunny episode where they are on the boat... ;)
The Hawk is just looking for food, can't blame him :0
