Fish recommendations for JBJ 45?

I have a JBJ 45 coming in this week. I'll be moving all my rock and livestock over. I've always been mesmerized by videos of tanks like this which 8-10 fish moving all around the reef behind corals and such.

What fish should I consider? I already own a clown and a dottyback.

The ones that come to mind are Banggai cardinal fish, long nose/Falco hawk (whichever is less lively to chow on a cleaner shrimp), a goby, some type of blenny.

Besides that I'm out of ideas - most videos I see keep fish such as juvenile tangs or diamond gobies that I don't think are a good idea in a tank that size

I would definitely not add surgeons, the other species on your list seem to be in order. Watch out for the aggressiveness of your Dottyback when adding gobies, blennies or dartfish to your tank. You may be interested in a dwarf angelfish if you wish, being cautious with your corals.

Is this tank appropriately sized for a dwarf angel? JBJ 45s are 26.5 x 15.6 inches for the display area.

It seems some people think that's fine while others do not. I didn't realize until now that the tank has less horizontal space than my 20 long *sigh*

I'm guessing this would be a final addition after everything else?

I think it has good space for an angelfish from the argi complex, these are the smallest angels you can find. If you are thinking of putting it in your tank then you would consider adding it at the end as they are a bit aggressive however think about their Dottyback they are a bit of a nasty guy too.

Any hawkfish has the potential to eat a cleaner shrimp. Personally, I'd avoid sand sifting gobies if there is coral in a smallish tank. The gobies tend to make a mess.
